We are in tears and I am completely blown away because I was able to experience this concert in Prague. Phil Collins is probably the musician in a row of many wonderful people who made our life so worth living at that time. Thanks for all the nice hours at home and in the concert. You have shaped my musical understanding for over 30 years, have accompanied me in a large section of my life and I cannot be thankful enough for that. Many greetings from Germany from Udo

Let’s see, we got 20 minutes to play with, how many songs do you think we can cram into a single medley…. Genesis always delivered the goods. I time and time again return to KZbin to watch and listen to their live performance’s and they never cease to amaze me. I remember listening to and recording The whole Atlantic show on cassettes…. Like 4 or 5 of them, but never got to see any of the video to go with them. Thank You for this post. It brings back such great memories! 👍🏻🍻❤️😎

You're welcome. Did you record it from the radio? Your tape's audio might sound better than this recording from the TV.
@topcat43truffles152 жыл бұрын
@@CthulhuWaitsDreaming Yep, recorded it from the radio. I think I still have the tapes buried somewhere. But I might be delusional….they could have been casualties of a move 3 years ago. Couldn’t even listen to them now…no cassette player (although that could easily be remedied.) One thing I do remember was cuts in songs when the tapes ended and were flipped or changed. Once again, thanks for the post. More relevant today, now that Genesis have played their last show. I couldn’t bring myself to see them on their last tour. I’d rather remember them for the ‘07 tour. An amazing band with an incredible repertoire of music.

The amazing thing about this is the solo songs - as far as I know this was the only time Genesis played those songs live. It's also great to hear Phil covering Fish's vocals (Shortcut to Somewhere). And Tony has never played his solo material live (possibly one TV studio performance of a song from Strictly Inc) - so this is a unique performance! And Phil singing a Mike & the Mechanics song...😀

Not in the 60's with the Beatles & Stones? Not in the 70's with Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull or Led Zepplin? But the late 80's huh, when Classic rock was losing air time to rap. 20 years after the British invasion. 😅

There's a lot of Phil's personal life behind the song Misunderstanding. Same goes for I Don't Care Anymore. Wifes? →"Then there were three."
@stevet74872 жыл бұрын
Those songs reflect what he was going through when his first wife left him. But the album title "Then There Were Three" reflected Steve Hackett leaving the band just before recording that album, leaving just Tony, Mike, and Phil in the band.

Brilliant!! I've never heard of or seen this (Genesis bit) before. The Rubaiyat album was brilliant - proof how loved Ahmet was (including bringing Led Zep together in 2007.. after he'd died!). SO good to see them all doing their own stuff too. They must be one of the few bands with longevity that solo projects having driven a wedge between them all. It puts all that crap you see with bands like Metallica not allowing Jason to do stuff away from the band look so unbelievably petty.

Something about this performance just seemed off to me for some reason. I don’t know if it was the selection of songs, or if they phoned it in here. The band had just come off their huge Invisible Touch tour a year earlier in ‘87, so they were probably still burned out from that, or not enough practice for this gig? Who knows🤷♂️
@santibanks2 жыл бұрын
I think its a combination of the guitar heavy mix (Tony is almost not audible) and just the very odd mangling of these songs and stitching them together in a weird way. It's not really like the smoother medleys they have done (In the cage medleys, the ones on the Mama tour-though the early ones with Ripples were weird too, the Old medley, or even the regular Turn it on again medleys). On the other hand, I have no idea how to combine this list of songs in a better way either given that they are all over the map.

Hahahaha, yeah this is rough. Other than the fact that I really don't like some of the songs on here at all (solo tracks, IT) all the transitions are extremely awkward, especially into IT and back into TIOA. The band, of course, since they hadn't played together in months, is in rough shape, but all things considered, they play solidly, just quite bored.
