I love these product. Expensive but it’s one time purchase compared to traditional ceiling tiles that crumbles, get stained or moldy.

Sounds well and good but what about being soundproof? Standard acoustic ceiling may not last as long but they do a hell of a job when it comes to keeping the noise out.

Sure they do. They're great for sound absorption. But the only problem with standard acoustic, mineral board tiles are that they harbor mold and mildew. And if they get wet, they stain. Genesis tiles are designed to not harbor mold or mildew and will never stain. They are 100% waterproof. It just depends on what's more important to you. Do you want sound absorption or do you want a tile that never stains and lasts forever?

I put mine up to 'Tray-ceiling' for mechanical access in the basement around the perimeter of existing drywall. I cut a 12" opening all along the walls then put 6" Bat insulation on top of the drywall space, working it in to the center, all the way to the wall stapling it up out of the way above the tiles. I used a 2x4 like an inside rail for a 3" 'Tray' ceiling drop & fastened the wall channel to line-up to it. The ceiling looks great & -this is right below our bedroom & my Son plays drums (adding the bat insulation really helped deaden that sound getting up to the rest of the house. I plan to do this to the other ceilings in this basement.

Yes, as long as the recommended installation methods and adhesives are used leaving 1/4 space at the edges to allow for expansion and contraction.
