Manual vs. Auto all comes down to day-to-day lifestyle and where you live. I love the engagement. I own an 06 8th Gen 1.8L Civic sedan with a 5-Speed manual (250,000 Km) and a 2010 BK1 Gen Coupe 3.8 w/ Navi 6 Speed Manual (170,000 Km). Both are very different cars with very different characteristics. What I love most about manual transmission cars is how much better and connected the driving experience can be with a couple of the right supporting mods. My week day job consists of long driving(civic). I never take the same route to work since I work outside of the city a lot and my hours are flexible. Very few times I come home late and I feel like I'd probably fall asleep behind the wheel of an auto rather than manual. My 3.8 Genesis coupe is my weekend warrior that I use for my other job on Sundays so rush hour traffic is non-existent here. Manual Pros: - Manual transmissions are very reliable given the experience you have and will last a very long time. - Same goes for your clutch given the right treatment. - Driver engagement. - Aftermarket support Manual Cons: - Traffic jams may deteriorate your clutch however this comes down to the individual. -Traffic jams ruin the experience of driving a manual car. - More components could go to shit due to poor driving habits and maintenance. Auto Trans Pros - More forgiving in traffic jams - shifts for you, less stress on the mind - If you got AMG V8+ levels of power you're blessed. Cons - More costly when SHTF (trans fail out of warranty); CVTs more $$$ to fix. - low driver engagement vs manual Had I been commuting in dead-stop traffic everyday for the rest of my life, I'd choose an auto over a manual. I do have the option of taking the train. Walking doesn't hurt either :)

My issue is that to drive to work, I've got some windy-steep roads to go down. When rain season starts, it'll get sketchy. I'm not terribly experienced with manuals so I didn't want to chance messing up so bad and veering off the cliff or spinning out - like the horror stories found on FRS groups in FB. The Paddle Shifters is a good tradeoff, if I want to play in manual I can use them. They may be lazy but as VE said, there's a reason why high end and supercars use paddle shifters. The general consensus is that to be perfectly careful driver, you need both hands on the wheel. The paddle-shifters keep that ideal while also giving you the ability to shift when you switch to manual.
@FatalFist3 жыл бұрын
@@axelslegitmarineparadise5040 It used to be you used automatic just for the gas mileage but that's just not quite accurate anymore. I agree, It really all depends on what you want in the driving experience. Both transmissions are pretty solid so there isnt a clear "better" one. If you prefer a smoother easier drive, where you can keep both hands on the wheel, quick shifting without mods I would say get a manual. Realistically there are some pluses to manuals though, its lighter, you make more horsepower to the wheels, and honestly It just sounds better rowing through the gears since you actually hear the turbo "cheww" between shifts. Also manuals handle some mods much easier than automatics since the transmission coolant lines can get in the way. Really theres no reason to fight over stuff like this, theres enough of both transmissions out there that we can all find which one we want. Its not like some cars where the manual version is extremely rare and expensive. As long as we have the option I'm happy.

’13 Manual - too much slop/play in stock shifter so installed ATQ SS with poly front/rear bushings - now it’s worse than a bolt-action rifle - very notchy/must force into each gear. I have the Megan Racing trans mount, Red Line trans fluid, and 3point8 engine leash. Someday I plan to remove the poly front/rear bushings and see if there’s a little more forgiveness/freedom engaging gears. Or maybe I should just go to the gym more often and build more muscle to operate the bolt-action - 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th are the hardest to engage for me. Also with the manual - some mysterious rev-hang and bucking at low speeds (e.g., in parking lots) are annoying. Always enjoy your uploads! Thanks!

So actually I recently found out that if you put your Genny into sports mode by putting the car into sequential shifting (the setting next to drive) and letting the car auto shift in sports mode, which it will, it's significantly faster than regular auto and paddles. Because the car will redline each shift and then auto shift up next in sport mode incredibly fast. Try it out, it's super fun and imo much faster than regular auto, and a little faster than paddling
@TheKos2Kos3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by max performance ? Drag racing for sure auto is clearly the superior option. But for racing around corners it really is down to the the particular transmission set up, driver and personal preference...also some autos dont downshift as well as upshift.

I have a 2015 3.8 auto, its a very fun car but 90% of the time i have to use manual mode, it is more fun especially for the exhaust sound, but both automatic modes, drive and sport to me are not very dynamic or responsive. That transmission will just upshift as much as it can and then hesitate to downshift, and just lug, especially when coming out of a turn or going uphill, and then no downshifting while going downhill. It also wont rev match downshift (2014+ 8spd) unless in manual mode and you shift it, while as other cars still will do that even in automatic modes. Really the only time ill prefer it in D or S is on the highway trying to squeeze out as much mpg as i can. But there really is no significant difference in both automatic modes. A kickdown switch from the end of the gas pedal, like many cars have would of aided nicely for quicker response in this car, even the Genesis sedan has it, because in the automatic modes it delays when you give a huge throttle input for it to kickdown. Other than that, love the car a whole lot!

I never cared for the 6 speed manual like the 2.0L Turbo I knew they were gonna have problems with that one! And they discontinued it! So in short you made the right choice! 👍😉 anyways keep it on the ground! From M. Carlson

Thanks for this video man. I've been in the market for the past 2 months switching back and forth between the 2. As far as power goes, would you happen to know the limit of the auto when it comes to the 2.0?
@VehicleEvolution4 жыл бұрын
Are you looking at the power the transmission can handle or the engine? I’m not sure what the transmission is rated for but I’ll find out.
@Mustangkid294 жыл бұрын
The 3.8 auto on the 2013 and up is rated up to about 500 tq
@johnsullivan9374 жыл бұрын
@@Mustangkid29 what??! while zf 8 speeds are pretty strong, But your talking about nearly DOUBLING the torque. Most guys on the forms recommend strengthening your drive train even with adding 100 torque over stock. I would not run 500 lbft of torque on a stock trans and expect it to last long.

@Th3An0malyy4 жыл бұрын
The manual just cant touch the ZF's 200ms(can even do 100ms if upgraded) shift time and power delivery period, no matter how much people cry about it. Its basically super car shifting territory. Per ZF instructions, fluid has to be changed at around every 45k miles. The auto in the 2.0T is flat out trash, its just a truck transmission.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T that has the 5sp auto called the A5SR1 with paddle shifters. It's basically Hyundai's version of Nissan's 5sp auto using the same gear ratios. It has nearly 160,000 mi, and it still has the stock engine, turbo, and transmission. It's had a minor turbo oil line leak and ATF line leak among other small issues the past 6 years I've had it. No issues have required any very costly repairs. It has a 3.909 final drive ratio with the first two gears being very short. It's really zippy off the line, and I've actually beat my friend off the line with his tuned manual Genesis Coupe. I have pushed the drivetrain many times from when I got it at 16 years old to now at 22. It's a really tough car. I've taken her well over 100 MPH many times, been on crazy back roads acting like I'm on the track, drifted it, and it has been my sole daily since 2017. I've hit the limiter at 139 MPH one time 😅. It had about 70,000 mi when I got it, and it's at 160,000 mi now. I wouldn't trade my car for any other car.

I’m glad I rebuilt my engine before it blew up. Simple and well worth it. It’s 2024 and my car has 238,000 miles on it. It’s never run better. Total cost was 1800 bucks and 1200 for labor. I can pm for details if anyone is interested. Dont get a tune, dont get a bov or exhaust, dont get a aftermarket intercooler… that all kills the car. Keep it simple stupid.

I’m not sure if the size of the halo. They came from diode dynamics specifically for the Genesis. My main lights are LED from Lasfit. Not anti flicker added. They’ve been great. I have a video on those as well as the switchback halos.

I've never understood the whole traffic makes a huge factor for daily drivers. I grew up in miami and never once thought damn I should of driven the automatic today. Also people all over europe drive manuals daily...maybe european traffic overall is not as a bad the usa but europeans are definitely less opposed to manuals than people in the usa. Yes, driving manual in traffic regularly will make burning your clutch more likely, but so many people outside of the usa and australia daily drive manuals. Just drive what you want and get good at it.

I heard the manual transmission in this car were just unreliable and would wear out quickly opposed to the automatic transmission. Which is why I decided to go with auto for this car and 120k miles in and it runs great! I Always changed the transmission fluid at 60k miles consistently and the shifting is always buttery smooth! My first car was an manual Toyota celica 1998 and I still have it and it’s always a fun car to ride. The connection you have with manual is just so awesome. My genesis 2.0t Is just a funny Zippy car with great handling and speed. Using the paddle shifts is a fun way to drive but I use this car as my daily and I take it to track days here and there and it’s just so much fun! Car Bros take manual driving so personally whenever a car is automatic idgi

No one really knows. Some people like to think that the 8 speed in the coupes is the same 8 speed in the v8 sedans but I don't think it is. If I had to guess the power limit of the auto I would say close to 370-380tq. 🤷🏻♂️

Let me ask you do you know if this is true that the Bk2 3.8 Are going up in value cuz of demand my cousin went to 5 different dealers and they have spiked up the prices since last year they claim cuz of demand and Actions barely have any you see a 2013 Bk2 3.8 and there going for 14 to 16k a 7 year old car and with over 80k miles 2 years ago they were alot cheaper.
@VehicleEvolution4 жыл бұрын
Haven’t seen that. Best way to check is looking at the Kelly blue book value. That will be more accurate and show you if dealers are just padding prices for a perceived demand.
