coolbrando1 I don't really know about talking shit, but they understandably were a bit agitated when Peter came on in giant distracting costumes. Clearly they didn't see eye to eye when it came to that part of the show.

Peter helped encourage Phil to pursue a solo career based on their work they did together (they had a night shift together during The Lamb... and Peter told Phil how good he was. I think in general they got along fairly well in comparison to other bands. I mean, they went on picnics together. They may just be some of the kindest and most cordial bands I've ever seen. I mean just look at Peter now. His seeming love for everyone is just apparent. Phil is kind and down to earth with everyone. I really haven't seen a band more well adjusted in their kindness. Maybe when they were younger they were a little more prone to misunderstanding and impatience. But they still seem to be friends with one another and joke around about their "fighting" and struggles of old. In retrospect it doesn't seem bad compared to pretty much every other band I can think of. Sometimes I think fans read too much into things and think there needs to be animosity or something when there isn't necessarily anything there at all. Just like when people make it up in their minds that Phil wanted drive Peter out of the band so he could be the singer. haha laughable.

@ceazea unless I've misuderstood you, it shouldn't matter whether or not Genesis went commercial, like they did. ELP are still the pioneers of progressive rock, and paved the way for many bands, and therefore, should have been the first progressive rock band inducted into the RRHOF. When ELP made their debut, they were much, much better than they were by the late 70's. Many of we ELP loyalists didn't like it when E stopped using the Hammond. Brain Salad Surgery is *the* album to have.

Wonder how it is that Genesis is the first progressive rock band to get into the RRHOF? Many of us are referring to the RRHOF as the "Hall of Shame". ELP should have been the first progressive rock inducted, not Genesis!

Probably because Genesis, combined with their solo efforts, were the most successful and prolific bands of the bunch. Name me any other progressive rock band who has had 2 members be as successful as Phil and Peter in their solo career? And then as a band selling 150 millions plus albums? ELP is just a little too 1-dimensional for my tastes (not in the sound, but the writing). Some brilliant stuff here and there, but too much cheesiness otherwise. I could never get into brain salad surgery, though some of it was interesting stuff and rather innovative. Just not much emotion in it...something which I found in droves with Genesis...The Music Box...Supper's Ready...Firth Of Fifth...The Carpet Crawlers...Almost The Entire Lamb Lies Down album (even if a little dense at times) etc. Their music still mystifies me on a deep, spiritual level. I discovered their true music about 15 years ago. Before that all I knew was "I can't dance." I had hated them up to that point. The first time I heard Supper's Ready was almost a spiritual revelation to me. First time I heard the "best" of ELP? Meh. Some of it grew on me, but still haven't had an urge to go back to them. Also, Genesis' first album was 1967... looks like ELP's was 1970. Am I wrong? Almost forgot...Love Beach may just be one of the worst albums ever released. Though Genesis did some bad stuff....nothing comes close to that.
