I know this was 12 years ago and I was a huge Genesis fan in my youth, but how incredibly rude for Phil and Mike to walk off the stage as Steve started to talk. I don't believe Genesis is currently "dismissive" of Steve at all. Whatever differences they had, are in the distant past now. Truth is, Steve would not have fit in with the global pop ambitions that the band had, and his solo career proves that. However Steve has indeed kept the early Genesis music alive and vital, something the other members are appreciative of no doubt.

Love Phish, they have a lot of chutzpah to have a go at 'Watcher Of The Skies', a very hard tune to pull off, and they did a fine job given the circumstance, but there are a few clams here and there in the mellotron chords and bass line, and the vocals we're never Phish's true forte (and there's only one man who could ever pull that off convincingly and w/t he right attitude - Peter Gabriel - and he could no be there unfortunately.). should have been The musical box to perform that evening. It's common known that Tony is the difficult one . Michael might close his eyes always but Peter & Steve made the right choice when they left . It was a Tony/Mike band. Tony is a genius & wrote in my opinion the best songs . Songs like Mad Man Moon , The lady lies , Firth of fifth , Afterglow , One for the vine, Guide vocal , A trick of the tail , Me and Sarah Jane , Many to many , Burning rope ....jesus can it get any better ? That said , he is also a big ego. And on the other hand : its the big ego's that make it in this world...so why would I complain. I'm just not that good with how Steve is treated all this time upon till nowadays . There is a big difference in how Peter is treated. Maybe they are just jealous on fact that Steve his renditions of the old Genesis stuff is applauded and that at least he can pull of a show without being obliged to play top 10 hits.

@@Spock105 True, The Musica Box does some pretty authentic overs of early Genesis. And true that down at the bottom, after Pete leaving it was indeed Tony & Mike's band and all things considered Tony Banks is probably the musical back bone of the band, in all its incarnations, w/ Mike taking co-lead role. After Pete and Steve left Phil need up being elevated in star from 'junior' to 'senior' by circumstance , while Steve remained in his mostly arranger/orchestrator role and got squeezed out creatively as well as in terms of his participation on the overall sound.Listening to Wind & Wuthering, it's like he was called in mostly to do overdubs and notch else, so he got fed up of not having enough room and left. An to be fair to him he is the only one who really gets 'old' Genesis for what it is, in all its beauty, he is the one who really loves their early Prog music, and is out there keeping it alive and presenting it and preserving it to future generations, so thanks to Hackett, because he is the one who really gives it its full respect and appreciation, which is weird coz like you said a lot of it was Tony and Mike and to a lesser extent Pete's. but Steve knows that both him and Collins contributed a lot in many ways to the overall sounds as well as songs, at least Steve did, as a writer, even if not as often as he would have liked and deserved. And he' s the one who knows that their 5 piece classic line up was 'greater than the sum of its parts'.

It was a different band pre-1975, more creative as well, if not as "radio friendly". But neither was Rush, they made it to the HoF without becoming pop shills.

They never recorded with the band, that’s probably why unfortunately. Chester wanted full member status for Calling All Stations, Mike and Tony refused and so he quit until Phil came back.

man... this band never functioned as a band, socially speaking. Whether it is being shy or whatever but bank's stone cold face all the time, and not even saying "thank you" to the audience... if it is a drag to be there mate, don't! Phil collins and Rutherford coming down the stage when a bandmate is saying his "thank you's"... This was really embarassing man

Everyone going on about Hackett. To me. Just looked a bit embarassing. Couldnt keep still in the background looking like hes trying to get on camera, and even more embarrassing jumping on the mic as they are walking off to tell everyone about tour dates.. I love his touches of brilliance from his Genesis days but can people get a grip.

@@OttoByOgraffey Sorry, you're just not getting it. There are chronic-pain medical conditions that NO doctor can treat, and Phil has one of these. Chronic pain makes one age faster than normal. Being rich cannot help you with that. I guess you've not yet met anyone who has one of these conditions? Lots of people develop them in their 50s, and they're quite common.

Bruh, even if you bitching about artistic-prog-rock qualities of Peter's era, there are still A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering, which were in the spirit of previous albums. And each of the prog bands, who wanted to survive 80's, had to change and evolve in some way.
