Beautifully done, and you highlight Tony's wonderful ability to compose and arrange interesting keyboard parts *within* the overall band sound, especially during Ikhnaton. Difficult for you to do with tempo, as you say, listening to yourself AND the playback! I didn't realise that the modulations back to As Sure As Eggs was dropped a whole tone live: I suppose this was so Pete could hit the high notes, similarly to the way Yes dropped a whole tone at the end of live versions of Close to the Edge.

@MathGsr Жыл бұрын
Well I remember that I mostly used presets from my L100. That's my mistake, I always used the preset for the Lower keyboard while in apocalypse it must be drawbars.. For the chapters where I used drawbars on the upper, I remember that I never opened a drawbar higher than 3 to increase the sound of the Perc, it worked perfectly well excepted if you have to play longer notes. Which is not the case in this song, longer notes are played on chapter with full organ preset. Always used the 2nd Perc also, never the 3rd. I can't remember exactly what was my drawabars settings but it was something like 233322110. Just adjusted it by ear directly while playing, took me around 3 days. I must check if I still own the original rush of the video, I edited the video to zoom on the keyboard so on the original rush I'll be able to see drawbars

Not sure about the "guitar solo" section of Ikhnaton but I always felt like Tony never did exactly the same thing there over the years. But is it just me or is Tony basically playing all of Supper's Ready with just one organ sound up till the last notes of the Apocalypse solo? (and invoking additional reverb at the end of Ikhnaton)?
@MathGsr Жыл бұрын
After 1972 the "guitar solo" was played on the Pro Soloist with Fuzz Guitar preset. In the 1972 show video Tony played it on the Pianet with fuzz box, just like the intro of Hogweed. For the Hammond, it's clearly not the same preset through the song
@santibanks Жыл бұрын
@@MathGsr I am talking about the comping during Steve's solo in Ikhnaton, not the arpeggios in duel with Steve (which come after). As hammond is concerned, I don't see you switching much. I think Sanctuary man starts with Ensemble on lower and drawbars with percussion on higher. Ikhnaton adds percussion on lower (and engages additional reverb in the transition to How dare I be so beautiful). And then switch to Theater brass at the end of Apocalypse solo?
@MathGsr Жыл бұрын
@@santibanks I can't see which pianet solo you're talking about, can you give me a timecode? About the Hammond, Theater Brass doesn't exist on the L series, otherwise I changed the presets during the "video transition" most of the time

Great job on a very long song, I think you are the first person who has done the entire song on keyboards. Here's another fun thought, with the improvement in keyboard sounds (ie Yamaha etc.) why not do the acoustic guitar arp parts on keyboards, as long as it makes sense.
@MathGsr3 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! If I remember well there is only one other entire song cover, but it's not very accurate at keyboard point (but still amazing considering he did all instruments and singing). It took me almost a year to be able to transcribe the whole song almost exactly as it was played ! As I said in the video (1:35), I will do Tony Banks 12 string guitar parts on another video because I want to keep this as a Keyboard cover. Otherwise the keyboards sounds can't be better since this is the exact keyboards used by Tony back in 1973.
