My old crusty, loud, unreliable, without remote controls garage door opener finally bit the dust. After months of dealing with it, a I found a great deal (value wise) on a garage door opener that fit my needs of security and convenience. That opener was the Genie SilentMax Connect Smart Garage System with Aladdin Connect. I bought the model with a belt driven system rather than a pulley, or auger style simple because a belt is the quietest of the bunch.

Model # 3053-tsv Ultra Quiet Belt Drive amzn.to/3ELISIJ
Also, my garage door opening is 7 feet tall. If it was larger, I'd need to buy a extension to allow the door to open all the way. amzn.to/41BsPGY

Awesome video! Parents are getting older now and they’ve had a manual for their whole life. I think this year my dad will be getting one of these for his birthday. @@kove Update.... I thought it was going to be easy so I bought a Genie garage door opener and I'm having the hardest time attaching it to the garage ceiling.. I wish they would have provided the metal pieces for a flat ceiling in different sizes. My garage ceiling is flat and low so I need a small 9inch metal strip. I'm having the hardest time. Just this one metal strip is delaying everything. I could have been done ALREADY!!!

@@kove Great stuff. I have an already installed Liftmaster chain I want to change to this genie belt, do you always have to remove and replace the carrier bracket above the garage door like you did?.. If so I'm guessing you need to refind the stud behind the wall.. I was hoping the new one would go right into the same bracket without having to replace that :-(.

Pro tip, don't level the rail. It causes excessive force on the top panel. The rail should be 1.5 inch above the top panel when the door is open. It will slant down from the header to the motor head. Otherwise a clean install for a diy :). 18 years in the garage door industry.

Thanks for posting. I just installed the same Genei replacing similar to what you had, a 29 year old Craftsmen using your video as a guide. The only thing that took some extra time was having to move my original mounting bracket up 8-10 inches since the Genie is a little shorter. I was hoping to bypass the sensors but the garage door wouldn't go down without holding down the hard wired pad button in the garage. My remotes don't work in the down mode or control the lights, hoping installing the sensors will fix that, if not I will need to reprogram the remotes which are pre-programed from factory.

Great detailed video. I’m curious about one thing. Did you have to do all new wiring? Couldn’t you have just used the previous wiring setup?

Same. About 5 hours by myself. I went to home depot and saw it sitting there with a 99 dollar yellow tag on it a grabbed the thing so fast. After I installed mine the wires kept popping off the spools so i had to wind my spring. The Aladdin connect app is pure çrap though

Thanks for making this video. Im about to buy the same one and I think you are the only one who has reviewed this model. Im a little confused on the part where you mark the "highest point" of the door and then use that to mark your brace position. Where would the brace go according to this height? I was a little confused on where I should be marking and setting this brace. Thanks!

Great video. Deciding if I want to change out my chain drive opener. Nothing js wrong with it but the master bedroom is right above the garage. Wondering if it'll make a big enough difference. Also, what is the distance from the wall to the opener? I definitely don't want to have to move my current support.

How does the belt turnbuckle engage into the carriage once everything is installed and mounted? At 2:42, it is still not engaged and I assume it still isn't after you bolt the rail end to the wall and hang the motor from the ceiling. Clearly, if the turnbuckle is outside the carriage, the door won't move even if the belt does. Once inserted onto the motor shaft, the belt cannot be moved manually so you can't really slide the turnbuckle in that way (at least I couldn't). Did you partly open the door, manually, until the carriage moved over the turnbuckle, engage it, then start programming the opener controls from that position? Thanks!
@kove
@kove 2 жыл бұрын
At 2:13 there is a black sleeve I fed the line through. This is what engages the door and the belt. It's also what can disengage the two if you pull the rope hanging from it. Hope that answers your question!
@fd7231
@fd7231 2 жыл бұрын
@@kove Thanks so much for the reply, really appreciate the help. Actually, my question was a little different: You do feed the turnbuckle through the carriage sleeve (and connect the two ends of the belt), but from the video it seems that by the time you hoist the motor up and do the install of the rail to the wall, all the way to the moment when you connect the carriage to the door, the turnbuckle is not lodged inside the carriage sleeve. It's down the rail. How does it travel to the carriage sleeve? Did you move the belt to make the turnbuckle travel to the carriage, somehow? Did you lift the door manually first? Incidentally, this is one step which is totally missing in the instructions.
@kove
@kove 2 жыл бұрын
@@fd7231 Ah! Yes, you hit hit the button to move the belt and it will find it's way to the sleeve eventually and lock itself in. You then do need to set the stopping point of travel manually. I don't recall the process for that, and wish I included it in the video as others have asked about that.
