Fayetteville, North Carolina’s J. Cole has gone from envisioning himself as one of the greats to calling them his peers. From his first mixtape, 2007’s The Come Up, to his first of three Platinum albums with no features, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Cole has been charting his own place in the game. Although he’s experienced his own share of bumps along the way (notably his idol Nas reception to Cole’s “Work Out,” which Jermaine addressed on “Let Nas Down”), Cole has stayed true to the only person that mattered: himself.

Truly offensive to say he solidified himself in the industry with “Middle Child” in 2019. That’s a WILD TAKE when this man had 3 platinum albums and countless classic singles dating back to 08!

My step-dad really changed my taste in music ever since he came into my life. He introduced me to J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Drake etc. I'm quite young and not many people in my grade know about J.Cole. J.Cole is by far one of my not only favourite rappers but also music composers. For Your Eyez only being my favourite with 2014 Forest Hill Drive being close behind. Coles lyrics in For Your Eyez Only really changed my perspective of the world and I'm forever greatful for it. Thank you Dad. Thank you J.Cole.
