The A14 came out in the iPad first, but they waited until the iPhone event to go into more detail on it. It'll be the same here with when M4 is in Macs, and the enhanced cores in the A18 Pro.

Apple is trying to justify the Air’s existence by jacking the Pro prices, even if jacking them is somewhat justifiable. Before the base model price difference was $200 ($599 and $799), now it’s $400 ($599 and $999).

Its the other way around they are trying to justify the iPad Airs existence as an intermediary between the iPad and the iPad Pro. The M2 makes perfect sense here as a step up from the M1 and, from a manufacturing costs perspective. I know TSMC is still having issues with the 3nm process a year after it debuted. They have to pass those costs of fixing the process to their customers or in this case their only customer for the special 3nm process they created for Apple. The M4 is still too expensive for the average consumer. Imagine it adding another $400 to the cost of the iPad Air and then leaving it only 50 to 100 below the costs of a pro. Think about what kind of effect that would have on university and college students. Also the base iPad is still the device used in most schools for elementary and junior high. they have to take a hit on it to ensure market penetration. students.

I was peeved with the pencil thing at first, but when someone mentioned how they had to change the magnets b/c of the camera it makes sense. The other option would be to put the charging mechanism on the short side, but that would be awkward as well. Looks like they are going to just have the two pencils moving forward, so it would also be strange to have a Pencil 3, if the only other one is the USB-C version. It's really dumb that you can't get the textured glass on all the pros. Imagine if all the Pros came with the pencil this year... That would've been something. They could EASILY do that. That would've made allot of sense.

From a non-tech consumer perspective, making the iPad Pro lighter made sense. iPads are meant to be portable, I could fit the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard in the bag and not worry about it. I also agree that the chips are becoming powerful but the iPadOS limits its capabilities. For the price you can just opt for a Macbook Pro because that's a better value for the money. I've never really understood why some regular people would choose using the iPad as their "computer" until I saw a professional who's in meetings with clients in a restaurant, presenting using a 12.9 inch iPad Pro, and then pulling out the Apple Pencil for signing a contract right away. The person could have easily used an iPad Air for that workflow, but I get that he wanted a bigger screen and only the iPad Pro had that. So now, Apple introduced a bigger iPad Air and that made a whole lot of sense. Though the tech community has criticized Apple for the release, I finally understood now why these existed. They probably have a market study where majority of the iPad/Pro users are not entirely the tech community.

Debuting a thinner form factor in the iPad Pro have made the lineup confusing because of what Apple has established with the Air and Pro lines. Before: Air means lightweight, Pro is for Pro users Now: Air means basic, entry-level. Pro means Extra. If you REALLY want or need something specific, may it be a feature, compatibility, thinner hardware, accessories - you go for the Pro. And that's how Apple charges you a premium. Totally unfair tbh.

I have an iPad Pro and a MacBook Air, I love the way both operating systems works independently. I’m wondering what if Apple bought MacOS Catalyst apps for iPadOS like they for iOS Catalyst apps for macOS, that would a better alternative rather than bringing MacOS to iPad or iPadOS having dual boot mode. macOS Catalyst apps on iPadOS would require an iPad with M Series chip and keyboard while developers can add Apple Pencil support iPad version of macOS Catalyst apps. I hope Apple brings MacOS apps to iPadOS as Catalyst apps, that way Apple can keep both iPadOS and macOS separate as well as makes pro users happy

Jern your right. Not all yields are perfect so they use the binned chips in other products. Apple still names them the same chip but most other companies label them secretly (i.e. Intel’s i3 i5 i7 i9). Also the whole bezels aren’t textured cause that would cause the front camera to not be clear.

As someone who commented about subscriptions on the last video thank you for revisiting the topic. I appreciate hearing that if you make a subscription that it would be additional content but not affect GB. Not sure that I love Sam’s idea of making the idiot bar the bonus content because as a listener that feels like a great part of GB, especially during the periods of the year when there is no news. At the end of the day though I’m sure anyone could look at any type of paywalled content and feel like they are missing out but as long as you guys are working hard to make sure that GB feel’s like the “full experience” with the bonus content not taking away from that I think the community will really appreciate this and it probably wouldn’t affect the amount of people who subscribe to the bonus. John. The Matt finish is only on the display and is inserted into the frame of the iPad. It’s gonna be bad enough as to how dirty the glass is going to get that you need a special rag to clean it. Much less the edges. The nano display must be clean in the specific way or you’re gonna ruin your device. Also, will you be staring at your screen OR the edge while working on the iPad????

I use Logic Pro on my m1 iPad Pro and at times it slowed down, cpu or memory hits the wall. You guys just watch content or write scripts on iPad which is why you don’t get why it would’ve been better for the Air to get the m3 already and btw if all you do is watch content and use a document app on a app you wouldn’t need an M series chip either. .

Exactly. This change finally makes the air the clear "every day use" iPad. The Pro versions are not for the average consumer. These are the same people that will tell you the iMac 24" is a great family computer and the Mac Studio is for Pros. They would never tell you to get a tricked out Mac Studio to watch KZbin videos.

Think part of why Apple skipped the m3 processor for the iPad Air is due to that they want to move on to the new 3mm chip process. Apple was pretty much the only user of the current 3mm manufacturing process. It then makes sense to skip the m3 processor.

The iPads are too expensive now. Apple needs the iPad to be priced like last years. I think the problem with software is the App Store. It costs too much now to be as developer for the App Store. I'm not talking about the 30% cut that is an industry standard. The cost to keep up with OS upgrades, app change requirements, yearly fees, etc. An app developer said it costs about $75k a year to keep a free app in the App Store. Fees, costs, labor, etc.

I bought the 13”, 1TB iPad Pro. Not interested in the nano glass. The price isn’t exactly comfy, but it’s worth it to me.

FCP 2 seemed to have no UI revamping… the UX sucked on version 1 and the additional live cam and speed bumped renders won’t help to make the iPad version a pro editing software , friction is too high

I think we've all been getting it wrong with the iPad. We want it to be more than an artist's tool. Apple is aiming for that market. iPadOS 18 will confirm this, but designers and artists is the market Apple is focusing that. The Pencil Pro is proof along with other highlighted pro apps. I may hope to get this M4 iPad Pro as my last super spec iPad, and transition (finally) to a MacBook Pro for my use. The pricing has forced me to consider the new $2,500-3,000 bracket and Mac dominates that better than iPad. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I feel your pain. 😂

It’s for creatives in general, art, design, photography/video, music, writing, 3d in the near future coding will be added as well. Gaming is also another focus as well

@chidorirasenganz you're correct in that, the iPad Pro is capable of handling some of these tasks. The focus, however, is on the writing/drawing/artistry/design market. Photographers may slip in there too, but video creatives are suffering the most based off the weak Final Cut Pro that finally launched on iPad last year, and DaVinci Resolve still being optimized for thr iPad.

@@Micah-Woods I would say all of the fields I mentioned are the focus. Video is more complicated than a static image, writing or audio but it’s still usable depending on your complexity

@chidorirasenganz that's what I'm referring to, the complexity. Pretty much every other creative won't have as many, if any, bottlenecks as video creatives. That's why it's easy for iPadOS to stay nearly the same. Would I like to see change and video creators/editors to be more embraced, of course! But Apple has been showing that they're not the priority. iPadOS 18 will clearly define whether this is definitive or not.

M3 also supported AV1, that’s something I was hyped about because I want to see a world where the KZbin app doesn’t kill my battery life

I think the main issue is that people think the iPad’s problem is that it doesn’t work like a computer. The first computer I’ve ever owned was a 15 inch MacBook air m2, and it was also my first personal computer. Aaaaand, coming from an iPad Pro user, i just dont get it. Everything about it feels cluttered : files management, app settings, window management, pro apps interfaces - like adobe - feel absolutely punitive to use. I think apple fixed all the issues i had with my 2018 iPad Pro with this new one (except battery life, I’m beyond shocked it wasn’t improved), and i seriously don’t want the iPad to just be a surface running macOS…
