This game is brilliant. I agree that some of the abilities can lose their luster because you can't use them with the same return...but it can make a difference in games.

This game is amazing! That dice placement and what it represents in regards of random gene sequence has me blown away! Solid game, much to learn about pea plants, monks and genetics :)

It's a solid game for sure, a little less captured by it but certainly enjoyed it.

I love this game. It's held a strong place in my collection from the start. I've only played 3-player a few times, all the rest of my 20+ games have been solo. I find grabbing upgrades to be something I benefit from throughout. Only maybe in the 5th round do I pass to hold on to coins if I can grab one more research goal, but if not, it's always good to have more die slots if nothing else. Something I learned over multiple plays. It's a solid game, imo, 9 out of 10

The market felt badly designed because the last player can buy stuff cheap, while the first player in a 4-5 player game has to pass most of the times because the assistants and extra shovels are too expensive. Because you roll the dice after you plant your seeds, you cannot prepare for the round but only hope the roll will be in your favor. If it's not, there's nothing you can do. Tough luck. You finished this game in under an hour? It always took us at least 100 minutes. BTW, you should definitely try Periodic from Genius Games. It is more sterile-looking, but miles better than Genotype.

Watched a gameplay a while ago (so my judgement will be based only on that), mostly because I was attracted by the unconventional, scientific theme. I wanted to like it so bad, and the ability to manipulate genotypes and fenotypes (and therefore the odds with dice) is actually interesting, but even if there are only 5 rounds, I felt the game got repetitive too soon. Rather than by the alea in throwing dices, I was annoyed by some CLEARLY unbalanced assistants and the fact that you can access them only based on the turn order. Loved the unique subject and the elegant art, but gameplay-wise did not meet by expectations. Nevertheless, great review! You made the game easily understandable even to people without no scientific background at all! 👍👨‍🔬
