Doc A lady in her my mid thirties met a guy of the same age. He recently got to know he’s SS but he’s very healthy, he doesn’t experience any symptoms of a sickle cell person. Please why is his own different? Can she accept him? (she is AA) Asking because he doesn’t show any signs of it.

If he shows no symptoms of SS, he's lucky and should still be cautious. Regarding the relationship, I'll advise they conduct a fresh test to be fully assured of their status. If results remain the same, SS:AA, the relationship is approved, although the children will most likely be AS, which is still okay.

Okay. Using one child was for an example. Having an SS child is highly unpredictable. Nature selects what is to be. So, there's a probability that the next child could be SS or AS, that's y such relationship is most likely a high risk.

Thanks for your question. There's a possibility that u may have a child who's SS. You can still run the tests in another hospital just to confirm. If confirmed, then u just have to live with it since u r married. If not married, pls reconsider the relationship because the risks outweighs the benefits of an SS child.

Chance of not having SS is very slim to be honest with you. I'll advice u reconfirm ur genotypes in another lab, if confirmed, pls reconsider ur relationship. The risks associated with an AS child outweighs the benefits.

Rhesus is another classification of blood, just like genotype or blood group. Having a + simply means that u have rhesus factor. Not a problem. It would have been a problem if u had a negative rhesus and married a positive man. Then medical advice will be adviced.

Ok. I contacted a friend in India and she said the test is called genotype, maybe you can check tertiary hospitals or so. Secondly, it's advisable for AA to match with an SS (sickler). So, we can only conclude when yours is confirmed.

Thanks for the compliment. When AS meets another AS, there is no order which we can use to predict the genotype of the unborn child. It's all a probability. That's why such union is not advised medically.
