Hope it helps some. There wasn’t much to watch when I did it so I decided to film it to help anyone else in the same situation

Thanks for the video. I just bought one. Many helpful tips and tricks. The only thing that makes me nervous is the B pillar chop. Good job!

Great video, I've been wanting to do this myself but like you mentioned not really any videos out there.. So what kind of welder did you use? My mig welder is a gasless and wasn't sure if I should use that or not.
@krawlerkingdom Жыл бұрын
I used a Miller 211 on 220V because I had that voltage put in my garage specifically for it. Gasless flux should work great too. Flux burns hotter so it can penetrate more than mig at the same voltage. I’m far from a good welder so refer to much better videos on that though 😂 hope the video help you know what you are getting into. Worth it but plenty of work

Great video, I am in the process as we speak of installing the Cage in a 2008 JKU. Ran into several issues that you did but all has worked out. I am starting to do lighting, speakers, radios and navigation. Have you completed any of this or thought of mounting spots. I had to remove my A pillar switches and the front dash speakers. My thoughts are to install a couple of tabs for the CB center top of roll bar, S-pod type fixture, Nav and phone holder attached to the dash cross bar, looking at different dome light ideas for the interior lighting. I am using a Best Top and had to get some different attachment parts from Gen Right. I also got the smaller rear GR storage bin - there are several options out there but went with this one as it fits the larger ammo cans perfectly. This also has a lot of mounting possibilities. This is not a cheap or easy project, but to me it is one of the best upgrades and will recommend it to all.

I moved my a pillar switched to the center console. You can easily weld a plate to the two parallel overhead bars to mount stuff to between the driver and passenger seats. I opted for tower speakers that I mounted in the back. Going to do the dome light Genright sells to replace the ones removed. I made a video of my soft top adapters for the cage.

Thanks, I have one in my 2dr jk and after the cost of labor on that, I decided to do it myself on the JKU. Bought a Millermatic 211 and will prob start here in the next couple of weeks. You did a great video, most of what’s on KZbin they don’t really explain the steps. I was thinking about letting a bodyshop do my B Pillar chop. My biggest concern is around the dash, don’t want to have it look chopped up. Other than the drill bits, did you need any other specialty tools? Oh, and how long did it take? Thanks again.
@krawlerkingdom Жыл бұрын
The longer bits and the bit for grinding down the webbed metal in the way for the dash mounts. Found that bit at the local ace hardware in the welding section. Welding,painting,prepping the tube, install was like 6 weeks if I remember right. You can do it faster with more dedicated time.

Was it flimsy before you took away the attching structure? Airplanes are really weak when you take structural parts off.
@krawlerkingdom Жыл бұрын
The b pillar isn’t flimsy with the cross bar stock but it shows the lack of strength in the even of rollover for it to take weight
