Definitely. Although, there are some good translations (especially in musicals), and there are times when there's good work with the singers, this definitely can play a huge part And honestly, I'm just happy seeing someone recommend Tom Scottz his videos are really nice popular science in computing and linguistics (I majored in a similar area myself and his videos sometimes reawakened my interest to my major when I was feeling down about it)

Tried to sing too many syllables, and unlike Chinese and Japanese, even if the syllables match with the melody, it doesn't always mean the words chosen will. Like in Emberfire "Flames grow with immortal courage." makes me cringe when I hear it. You just don't speak 'immortal' and 'courage' like that.

The intentional meaning they want may originally be in CN but that track is as original as it could be since there are no other versions in different languages. Moreover, the demo given to her prior the record was in English. The singer, however, is not a native speaker. Her name is Curley G. She is both singer and song-writer. And, hence, she adjusted a lot of lyrics to make it flow better because as you can imaging, that song is pretty darn hard to sing. If you have ever listened to English as spoken from other people from different countries, you will realize that there are no "correct" way to pronounce a word that would please every nation even those native to English. (Try Aussie and British English for starter)

Saying a localizer's emotional testimony is less awkward than a voice actors is uninformed. Actors just read the lines off of paper, as they do for 100 other games and anime. Localizers actually write what the characters say, and are usually only writing one project at a time. Translation and localization is a much more creative process than people realize. They most likely understand the characters, the world, the lore, and the context a lot better than the voice actors, and they probably actually play Genshin Impact due to it being one of the few things they're working on, whereas many of the voice actors admit to never having played the game and actively disliking it. They're both awkward, but a localizers is way, way, way, more sincere than a voice actor's, who is constantly and violently aching to be out of the booth and not having to think about Genshin.

People focus on different aspects of music. I naturally focus on being in tune thanks to my perfect pitch, and can confuse instruments sometimes despite my musical background. Plus, as a linguist, I absolutely agree with Zajeff, but at the same time, it's funny to see English speakers have the backfire of songs being translated INTO English, not the other way around. Although, localisers in other languages definitely have more experience in translating song lyrics to match better Plus, honestly, there are moments when the voice is kinda ear-piercing, but that's how many female pop singers sound to me. Not really the fault of anyone other than my perception. Also, as someone who's worked with opera singers and their pronunciation, I did help them with word for word translation, and they need the "screw the grammar, we need direct translation that doesn't even make sense in our language" to see which words are important, and we've worked on everything: translation, understanding the meaning, and pronunciation. And misplacing the accents was simply unacceptable. Also, there are translations of musical, and they're just higher quality. If we listen to low quality stuff from everywhere, we become used to it and accept it more easily, which just leads to our lives getting worse and worse. So, I feel like the translator(s) of the song simply didn't have enough time/people to actually produce better fitting lyrics.
