Natlan act 4 did something no other archon quests could. Actually making Paimon sound depressed. Yes, even when she had separation anxiety in Sumeru she wasn't anywhere near this depressed when war broke out. I was genuinely stunned to hear her like that

I believe natlan pulled off the theme of war excellently To understand the tragedy of war you first need to see what it destroys. It has to be sudden, it has to be senseless. It was not just about having named characters die tragically. It had to portray the scale of loss, despair, senselessness, etc. that war brings. It's not glory or triumph, it's a catastrophe and heroic triumph is for the defenders to stop losing more people, not a moment of elation one should seek if war can be avoided. Thus having the color die, the light fade, a count of victims, failing to rescue everyone on time and being forced to prioritize one group over the other, hoping you minimized the harm, etc. was what had to be done. But to show that tragedy of war, you first had to see the antithesis of what the war was destroying. Natlan was expertly designed to facilitate this exact moment.

I really liked the war part, it show that no matter how many individuals battles you win, no matter how many heros are on your side, it will never be enough to save everyone, and in this quest we learned that in the hard way, for every warrior or citizen we saved, another ten were killed at the same time, and we weren’t alone in this task, man even the messenger count were getting lower by each battle, and they were tasked to just run away cause they were the information carriers

Kachina got stuck in the Night Kingdom literally because the abyss has almost completely taken over. We're told multiple times how dangerous the abyss has become, and we even fight an incursion at the People of the Springs. By the beginning of Act III, Mavuika has to have multiple forward guards and recon units on task at all times to defend against the increased activity. Its just not true that there was no foreshadowing, its a hilariously incorrect claim.

They always were. You can see that in quests that allow you to spare them. Those from Chasm hope you'll meet again if you save them. Meet as friends that is. Those two from Sumeru. In Aranara quest we see what previous Knave did to this guy. He found new life, but orders are absolute (for previous Knave). In Jhet (???) quest, there is a Fatui that kidnapped her. But he is in Fatui because they pay good money and he wants his younger sister to have a better chance in life. I always spare them if I have the chance. Because oh boy, next region is going to give us some good reasons to understand them (probably) so I will be ready for that 😂 And seriously. They are at war against everyone, with how they want important things from nation's gods. They are evil often times, but they are just very loyal soldiers. They are human.

You know, I always spare them when I get the chance. Those in Chasm, the one in that desert quest saga, the one in Aranara quest. They are antagonistic, villanious often times, but they are still people. I am not saying that they are right or you should be nice to them at all times, but they are most of the times following orders of people they were raised to look up to. Think of it that way. So called Vlad the Impaler is described as a cruel monster, but he is national hero for his people. I would be terified of him most likely and I would curse him if he impaled someone close to me, but he had people following him. Fatui are from what I understand preparing to fight the very Celestia. If you spare them during those quests, you'll find that they are just people following orders. Those in Chasm? They hope we will meet again as friends next time if you save them. The one on the dessert? He became fatus so his sister could follow her dreams and study thanks to the money he earns that way. The one from Aranara? He knows he did wrong, but he knows that was how he was raised by previous Knave (probably), and even if he found people he cares for outside of Fatui, he has his orders. But spare him, and he will fight impossible battle against Abyss lector. Defeat the abyssal monster, and you'll find the same Item you would get from defeating him instead of sparing, which yes, means he is gone, willingly. Even the Fatui in Natlan, they saved people on the road. They did it because there was no order against it. They are just loyalists, blind to morality in face of orders. Which may be justified. If Tsaritsa will turn out to be someone worthy of such devotion that is.

Dude. Playing the quest made me question if every choice i did was the right one. Like, im saving these guys first since the other would be alright. But no. Good lord, that death count every turn was demoralizing leading up to the last one. It hits you with waves until it bashes you with a sledgehammer of pain at the turning point. I played the Sumeru quest before watching the trailer, and while watching the trailer, I almost thought I was watching one for another game. This is not Hoyo’s first rodeo in terms of teasing a fun environment while also having a deep story involved And fun fact for those who haven’t played it yet, this one quest imo has more lore drops than any Dainslief quest as well

People were complaining about Natlan being too colourful and not about war, and then we got hit by scenes where most of the camps that we visited were already destroyed, with corpses of Natlanese, Fatui soldiers and Saurians are lying around everywhere. Right now the whole Fontaine archon arc quest is unbeaten peak for me, but we still mithing one third of Natlan to fairly compare. And it might peak with it. I still dont feel immersed enough to feel the stakes for this region, its just... Knowing the monetisation of the game kills the danger for me. I know that every palyable character is therefore safe. They REALLY need to surprise me with 5.2 archon quest. I dont want to always know who is safe just by knowing they are paklyable, people need to die i nthe next quest. Im feeling way too safe. The abyss depiction this quest was really sick tho.

@@Shiruvan I agree that someone in the West does need to do a better job at properly representing cultures, but my issue with Genshin isn't the color saturation but China's culture as a whole. For starters, China has a race problem so bad it makes Jim Crow seem romantic in comparison, they put their Muslims in camps, discriminate against their Pakistani and Indian immigrants, women are sometimes encouraged to walk around with umbrellas to avoid their skin being dark, and there was this one instance of a McDonald's that had a sign that said "Black people do not enter." So them wanting to explore the mythologies and cultures of different groups of people while not exploring them is no different to Rings of Power appropriating European mythology. I don't think darker skin characters alone are DEI, nor do I mind the decisions Hoyo makes but then at the same time, I ask why make two nations based off of brown people without the brown? The answer as I've noted isn't just aesthetically, it's culturally.

Natlan arc is the best to be honest, because it's shows how horrible when war start appeared and the abyss getting spread off the place. As it's dumb to build up tension and whole issue statement in the first act. Act 1 is always about meeting. Act 2 facing general issue with an ending to a bigger one. Act 3 is a build up for the act 4. The thing you want is to ruin the Genshin's story pacing and bring a clear mess. Your wish is a excuse to your inpatience or even excuse the will to see an action for just an action and not the story

How tf do you know from my comment that I want the climax in act 1? my complaint was clear why yapping for 3 acts? why this boring ass peace in the nation of war? The perfect build up is in my opinion a small war that is a surprise to 2 of the tribes at least in the end of act 1 or the start of the 2 then build up for the counter in act 3 then from the start of act 4 the counter begins.... but bc of their stupid marketing we got 1 filler act which was the first which we see the peace of the nation of war! Finally I watched many movies and animes but a genshin player tell me what should the story be like? LOL A7A
