When I originally was convinced to try Honkai Impact it was after watching the first couple animations for Will of Honkai and Final Lesson. I told my friend when I watched it I immediately felt a hit to my feels after the music kicked in and then we saw the flashback, I was like "I don't even know her and I can hear the damn onion ninjas already. If I play the game this will end up making me cry." well I started playing the game during the Evangelion Collab, which was nice, and then got to the point in the story for Final Lesson, which was not nice. I knew it was coming and it still didn't save me, I cried. And then we got the one mission later on where Mihoyo has the nerve, the sheer audacity to not only confirm, yup Himeko is definitely dead, but here have the literal saddest story from Violet Evergarden told to you by Himeko in Kiana's mind. You f**kers, I cried again at that point, damn onion cutting ninjas.

"Reburn" was basically a really early beta / hype trailer for Honkai, so nothing that happened in it is canon. Though 'Iche Libe Dich' (I misspelled that horribly. xD) is a thing. And Kiana's appearance at the end became her 'Knight Moonbeam' battlesuit.

You really should start on honkai the story might drag a bit at first but it picks up and becomes absolutely amazing. Its quite confusing tho but plenty of captains are willing to help you understand if you need.

You have to understand that she already plays multiple games and has a personal life too. A lot of these games (Genshin, Honkai, etc.) are very time consuming and eventually start to feel like a part time job (even tho it is kind of her job xD) It would be very understandable if she doesn't start playing Honkai as the grind is very much real and the gacha may be a bit more forgiving than genshin's but you do need more equipment just for a singular character as most of them hit potato damage without their signature gear (UR for example without her scythe does not do much damage). The game also works on a shard system, which can be a double edged swors as it makes characters technically farmable, but it will take you months and maybe even years to fully get them to the maximum rank. You can absolutely f2p the game but you will never be able to compete in challenges against spenders thus lose out on rewards that are given to top players (the rich get richer as they say)

Yooo, I like how you actually try to analyze and most of the things were correct! About the animations: as some people already mentioned, earlier animated shorts have a different emotion representation, sometimes JP does better, sometimes CN, so I would advice to watch the following videos in both versions, at least for yourself/off camera. Also, JP dub of Lament of the Fallen (Mei vs Kiana) has an ABSOLUTELY different emotional spectrum, I HIGHLY recommend to watch it too :D

Song for Bronya "Cyberangel" - is sang by her Chinese voice actress, she is also a v-tuber. Music is flat there - because she is emotionless. She lost ability to feel most of emotions because of experiments (read manga for details), so Bronya is somewhat robotic - thought Herrscher Core cured her with time.

7:53 Just an important point to correct with this video, us as the Captain of Hyperion don't actually exist within the story, "Captain of Hyperion" is exclusively just how the player is referred to outside of the story and is how the main character of the side events is referred to. Within the main story canon however there is no "Captain of Hyperion", the actual captain of Hyperion is Himeko, or Theresa when Himeko isn't available. There probably is some non-valkyrie person that commands the Hyperion from beneath those two, but they're a faceless NPC that is never addressed. 12:08 Reburn is a bit of a confusing trailer as it's non-canon, it's not actually reflective of the story or anything. I forget what it was suppose to be but it's not actually canon. 19:03 Yeah, you didn't turn on subtitles for the animation so you didn't notice, but Mei outright says those are Anti-Entropy's (AE) robots when they appear. Though robots do not necessarily mean AE, every organization uses robots to fight the Honkai, it's just that AE almost exclusively uses robots unlike Schicksal (SS) who uses them as a supplementary force to the Valkyries and a defensive force to protect their bases. 19:10 Those weren't robots, they were Honkai beasts. 23:48 Not aunt by blood, but yeah there is a very strong familial bond between Kiana and Himeko. Also just an explanation for how she didn't get shot in the Bronya animation, Project Bunny (her robot) can, simply put, go invisible and is actually blocking all the shots that would've hit her, if you look very close you can actually see the space in front of her is slightly distorted by the robot's presence when she's getting shot at. 29:40 [Bronya] is a... questionably canon animation and no Bronya cant really do that as far as we're aware. This animation is pretty up in the air and is assumed to have just been a hype animation, since like Reburn it never properly appears in game nor does it really line up with the story we know. 35:40 The line paired with the action makes sense if you read the Azure Waters manga (Honkai has a manga series for supplementary info, and it's actually really important, if you want I can give you the recommended reading order for if you decided to play the game), but tl;dr is that no Project Bunny isn't Seele, but they aren't unrelated. 37:00 it makes more sense with context, but those images weren't Bronya's past, they were "what ifs", as this animation takes place in the Sea of Quanta which is one half of the Multiverse within Hi3. But yes Bronya and Seele were childhood friends. 46:50 Because Hoyo tells way too good of a story in Honkai that despite how much it depresses us we just cant leave it. 48:11 It makes sense if you know the history of Mihoyo and their games, in Guns GirlZ (GGZ), which is the game before Hi3, Kiana was known for using a bat as a weapon. So as a GGZ easter egg/nod there are occasional scenes where bats are used by Kaslanas, notably here in Meteoric Salvation and in the manga by her dad before he became a Knight (the male version of the Valkyries). 52:10 Yeah Starfall (the song for Meteoric Salvation) is definitely near the top of the songs for the animations. In my opinion its really only beaten by the most recent three (Moon Halo, Regression, and TruE). 1:03:02 It makes a bit more sense in context, but this is still Mei trying to save Kiana.

Regarding [Bronya], the phasing through stuff ability is reference to her Dimension Breaker battlesuit's power. Since that's a battlesuit that's mimicking powers she has in videogames rather than her reality, it's still of dubious canonicity, though! It's probably something that happened in the Sea of Quanta, all sorts of stuff happens there!

Captain stuff is parallel to canon , but since his oorign was a different branch of the imaginary tree, and takes place exclusively to misadventures withing the sea of quanta, there's zero interaction with main story Honkai canon at all, and all of the characters we encounter are other parallels of the main cast with different origins. The pilot for the giant robot? Canonically it was only ever piloted by Siegfried, her father. Mind you, reburn was a promotional video, and completely not-canon, but Mihoyo very much likes it's subtle and not so subtle self-referencing.

Just so you know. Each of these "animations" were the main cinematic between major chapters. Like, iirc the one where Kiana got possessed by the Hersherr of Void was the epilogue cinematic of chapter 8. And we had to wait for the game to update into its next version, which was a few months, to get to the next chapter and cinematic. Of course, that led to "Final Lesson", and we had to wait again... the cliffhangers were heart wrenching, I tell you. XD Edit: Whoever gave you this playlist did a fine job with sorting the whole thing in chronological order. Nice. Edit 2: "People who play this game must be in a fuckin' mess." Oh, you'd say that again, sis. Edit 3: 1:01:35 "I don't know what the relationship is between these two characters". Well, if you wanna know. Kiana Kaslana and Mei Raiden are lovers. In the context for Lament of the Fallen, even though Kiana has somewhat overcome the Hersherr's influence and taken her body back, the "bomb" she diffused in "Meteoric Salvation" had overloaded her Core and Core of Thunder (Mei's core, which Possessed Kiana snatched from Mei in "Will of Hersherr" cinematic) with Honkai Energy - essentially gave her a severe case of Honkai cancer. To cure her lover, Mei Raiden was offered a choice - to join the World Serpent (an "evil" organization) and become a Hersherr again - by willfully summon the Core of Thunder from Kiana's body and back into her (which would tear away the exessive energy from Kiana, curing her), or allow Kiana to keep on saving the world with her lifespan on countdown. Mei chose the former. Kiana caught wind of Mei's choice and thus the fight on the roof ensued.

Really happy to see you react to this. And I love your decision to watch this in the original CN dub for the later ones! I know everyone has their preferences, and no hate towards the JP cast from me. But some of the voice direction in the JP version kind of differs from the original intent at times. And I do think the CN cast are really underrated for their performances. Can't wait to see you watch the rest, and hear your thoughts!

Oh, and I forgot to mention there are some odd translation bits where things are kind of lost from the transition to CN to EN. But most of them are okayish. There are some bits of a later animated shorts where it does change the meaning a bit. So I can help clarify things a bit when you get there!

The song in 'Seele' is called 'Dual Ego.' The way Seele gets injured in this one feels extremely raw and real. You can see the moment her fingers get scrapped raw. Both aspects of Seele are officially called 'Seele.' But because of some skill names and details on Stygian Nymph, the battlesuit Seele unlocks in this CG, fans refer to the blue one as 'Saule,' and the red one as 'Veliona.' So Starchasm Nyx is considered as what happens when Veliona is fully unleashed. Interestingly, while all versions of Seele are Quantum-type, Swallowtail Phantasm and Stygian Nymph are both Physical. Starchasm Nyx is Ice. Players unlock an SP through the Starter events. It's not quite accurate to think of Veliona as 'evil' and Saule as 'good.' Saule is the host, while Veliona acts like the brakes, stopping Seele from being able to unleash the full power residing inside her Stigma. At the same time, though, Veliona will do anything for Saule's happiness, so we have her willing to empower Seele and help her out whenever she can. Most characters in the story don't know about the second personality, but those closest to Seele certainly do.

ngl, Honkai and Genshin make me wish the games i play had trailers as cool and hype as them, because by god they pull me back in so hard like Girls Frontline has the coolest (mostly event) music and a great story, but by god the event trailers are anywhere between stylised slideshows to questionable in quality CGI (minus the GFL2 teaser trailer, that one is fucking sick) they're cool in their own right, but Mihoyo is like a lightyear away from most and it's not getting any closer

'Cyberangel ZERO Exception' takes place in the Sea of Quanta, where Seele was lost for many years. To explain, think of it as the place where bubble worlds float or sink once they've been pruned from the Imaginary Tree. Again, you can read _Azure Waters_ to get Bronya's and Seele's background. Critical details here include Bronya shattering alternate versions of herself to reach the Core of Reason, Seele coming to find her as a butterfly to help purify the Core so she can use it, and Project Bunny 19C's massive upgrade. Bronya's had the mech as a support for a long time, but it always looked incomplete and kinda janky. Here, at least, it looks complete. Also, as a result of things that happened in _Azure Waters_ , Bronya needs prosthetics on her legs to walk, otherwise she floats with help from Project Bunny. She also has a hard time emoting, although she does still feel, so her emoting here is a really big deal. Note as well that the prosthetics are gone when she's using her Herrscher powers. I think you need to give another watch and listen to this one, because they used the music perfectly. Which, by the way, is sung by Bronya's CH voice actor, Hanser. Who is also a VTuber. She also has sung it in both concerts. Song's called 'Cyberangel,' and I don't know if you remember, but in the PV where Bronie's in the bar, she hums to it.

Not just that, many don't know that Tetraclyx is so much more. She can sing really well - "Sin Angel", the original beat of "Cyber Angel" in Honkai 2 was sung by her. She voiced every incarnation of Kiana since Honkai 1 iirc. She can even write songs - recently, she co-written the song "TruE". She's so insanely talented but people don't notice her because people seem to only acknowledge JP dubs...

Different tastes for different folks! I prefer CN and have the opposite impression lol. CN feels more emotional to me. But JP is good too most of the time. I will say though that not all of the trailers are in JP. A lot of the trailers (for version updates) were voiced in CN but weren't in JP. A good example is the version Durandal was added, fully voiced in CN but not in JP. Also a lot of the game's main story that was voiced in CN didn't have JP voices. Presumably due to scheduling problems unfortunately.

The reason why I am still playing Honkai although admittedly not as much as I used to and dropped Genshin about after a year of release is the characters. Genshins characters are very one note, flat and for the most part unimportant. It gets hard to stay motivated to play the gacha when you know the character is just this months flavour and that´s it. Meanwhile in Honkai you grow attached to the characters thanks to all of them being relevant and fully developed. It gets you hyped to collect them. Even if it isn´t the best meta Battlesuit I still wanted my Void Queen and jumped up when I got her from a random draw on the standard banner.

I completely agree. I started as a Genshin player but have now fully transferred to Honkai. There's less pressure, more love from hoyoverse, a better story and a fairer way to obtain characters. Sadly, I'm still missing the Queen since she has yet to come home from standard banner or war treasury. But at least I have Elysia, she's the one who ultimately made me play the game because of her awesome design and theme.

The Chapter 11 cinematic single-handedly makes me cry every time I hear _Amazing Grace_ now. Lookit what you've done to me, Hoyo. In-story this is when Kiana unlocks Void Drifter. The Chapter 15 CG is kinda like an interlude, but it _is_ a fight I'd like to see more of: Kevin, the strongest fighter of the Previous Era, vs Bianka 'Durrandal' Ataegina, the strongest fighter of the Current Era. Top billing right there, even if Kevin's not using his weapon. Though to be fair, it is _extremely_ devastating. Bianka's Spirit summons are called King and Queen, by the way, and she's the only one who can use two. King has a massive sword, so he's for offensive moves. Queen has a big shield, so she's for defense. Also, if you run around the field for a bit with Bright Knight: Excelsis, her jet thrusters will kick in, and she can fly around above the ground.

Note that the first Core that Bronya touches is the Core of Desire, and the Core of Reason saves her. This makes a lot more sense in game.

@@ahsanallamunjan I could be misremembering, but the whole reason they enter the Sea is to get the gem of Desire (which I called core...for some reason...) and it's not precisely a "good" gem. Welt has the gem of Reason but he tests Bronya and gives it to her. Later on Bronya actually gives away the gem of Desire to the Serpent (or was it Seele?). So I'm 70% certain the red one is Desire and the blue one is Reason. The shapes could be easily retconned btw.

Ah, you got to the MOST ANGST one in part 1. It's THE animation everyone refers to when they talk about pure angst. And get this... If you play the game the context makes it better (worse) Like the biking Bronya cinematic. What she went through 2 chapters prior to the cinematic literally made her (one of) my favourite character. And I was totally indiferent to her for the most part to that point. It's actually amazing how they write the characters.

The CN va's do a great job getting their emotions across for later animations like in shattered samsara, everlasting flame, this spoke apocalypse and Because of You. It's all a preference thing tho as I play the game in CN and feel that they deliver some emotions better whereas the JP va's might overact in those parts, like the more emotional scenes in later chapters. We actually call it 'Depression Impact.' 'Final Lesson' is not only the end of Chapter 9, but also a huge climactic turning point in the game's story. 'Final Lesson' is considered the true entry point to _HI3_ , and the point where we say 'welcome to _Honkai Impact 3rd_ , fellow-Captain.' It also demonstrates how important the context surrounding the CG is. For example, missing is the fact that all Valkyries use Honkai energy that continuously corrupts them in order to fight the Honkai. They're equipped with Stigmata (which act like Artifacts in the game) that give the Valk both compatibility with Honkai energy and resistance to its corruption. But _not_ immunity. Most people are not born with Stigmata, but they can be implanted with less effective artificial ones. Murata Himeko has artificial stigma, while Kiana, being a Kaslana, has a natural set that's more effective. Valks, even those at St. Freya, are taught that when they see their comrades begin to turn or fall, they're supposed to kill them to prevent it. A sign of the corruption is the glowing red lines, which is called 'Honkai Cascade.' And for awhile before this, Himeko had been suffering from signs of her corruption, meaning she was likely going to die in weeks at most even if she fought normally. And this was far from a normal fight, against a powerful Herrscher, using a battlesuit that was effectively the last Divine Key weapon created in the Previous Era, and powered by that era's Herrscher of Flame's core -- so it's understandable that under all that power, the Godsbane prototype suit broke. At the start of this CG, we saw Himeko holding the completed Honkai suppressant serum. She had a choice: use it on herself and lose her abilities to fight as a Valkyrie but be saved, or use it on Kiana on the slim chance it would help her get back control from Sirin. We know what Himeko chose. Himeko will live on in our hearts, in the Vermillion Knight: Eclipse battlesuit in the game, in _Honkai: Star Rail_ , and hopefully as the Pyro Archon Murata in _Genshin_ . Also, the song, 'Nightfall,' is one of the easiest way to make Captains cry.

Anyway, next set should be Reawakening, Shattered Samsara, Everlasting Flames, Pre-Revalation, Thus Spoke Apocalypse, and the most recent one, Because of You, all I can say is, I hope you have some tissue ready

Originally it was planned Kiana would leave the team and just chill by herself after 3rd herrscher eruption that she caused (the animation after this one depictures this moment) This robot was send by Mei (if I'm not mistaken) to look for Kiana and return her home, so Kiana kissing it kinda makes sence. She's like saying "sorry and goodbye" In the game Kiana left the team too, but the animations were way darker (the one at 44:57 and the next one where she defused a bomb)

As someone who is passingly familar with both languages, the JP dub has a good cast choice (for most) but some of the direction is really questionable. I think the CN cast has a lot better understanding of the charcaters. The JP dub has good actors, but some of the performances are a bit phoned in at times (mostly Kiana). And that's coming from someone who LOVES Rie Kugamiya as a VA. She just wasn't a good fit for Kiana imo, and her performance kind of falls flatter compared to Dian Tao's rendition. The other VA's are good but I feel like the voice director makes some odd decisions. It's much worse in the actual story cutscenes, but the tone is sometimes way off. Feels like the director didn't bother looking at context or watch the original acting at all sometimes. This isn't a knock at the JP cast at all. I really do feel like they are trying their best. And it's clear in other works they are amazingly talented. But it feels like the voice director giving them guidance is half assing their job or something at times. It is really jarring in some scenes.

@@hollow8136 true. As a native chinese speaker me and others usually thinks jp choose the wrong voice actor for this. VAs does a good job but wrong voice. The second is that the jp voice actors didn't have the emotions which cn did. No hate but I only think jp Himeko's and Mei's are more suitable to the characters competitive to cn. Other characters were none others than wrong voice or no emotions

Tbh even if you have no time to get into honkais multitide of other activities. You can, literally, play the ENTIRE STORY, without engaging in any other content in honkai. The storyis good enough to play it as a single player RPG. You'll get the specific valkyries you need for story parts, can't even use your own. Play the story, ignore the rest. For what its worth, its an amazing RPG story, see it as a visiual novel with REALLY well made combat inbetween.

The relationships between Kiana and Mei are... complicated. Mei was the star in the academy because of her father - Raiden Ryoma - CEO of corporation. But later Ryoma was arrested and she became the "daughter of criminal". This led to the fact that negative feelings created Herrsher persona in Mei's mind. She destroyed Nagazora and killed millions of people by Honkai. After that she decided that she could not continue her destructive existence and tried to jump off the roof. But Kiana saved her and became the anchor for which Mei continued to live. While studying at the academy, she made sure that Kiana ate on time and did not skip classes (even in game we can eat Mei's lunch twice a day to replenish stamina). The funny fact is, Mei's Herrsher persona know all that know Mei herself and in manga Herrsher have said that only she can kill Kiana (which may indicate at Herrscher's affection for Kiana in romantic meaning). In general, Hoyoverse like to hint on romantic relationship between girls - Kiana and Mei, Bronya and Seele (they kissed in manga), Yae Sakura and Kallen Kaslana.

I love Honkai's story, but it's definitely a big multimedia thing to get into. Like Genshin the official youtube has a lot of must sees but then there's also a significant amount of manga and visual novels and event animations to see besides the game. That said, it's all very rewarding and some of my favourite characters of all time.

The cinematics thmselves are good, but when you get the full story it gets even more amazing. The relationship between Kiana and Mei is pretty similar to Naruto and Sasuke, but Kiana actually has 3 cores implanted and at the last cinematic she was in the verge of death, so in order for her to live Mei took away one of the cores (the ones with the dragon you get to see on the previous cinematics), but in doing so she made a deal to turn against Anti-Enthropy as a Herscher. Now she became a Herrscher with full control of her power but she also did that so that this other organization didn't continue trying to kill Kiana, as everyone else sees her as a threat rather than a human being

At the end credits of Cyberangel zero exception, the butterfly briefly shown within the core of reason represented Bronya while the second butterfly it went too represented Seele, and the images of Bronya that were shown were other versions of her in the multiverse linked together by the Sea of Quanta. Seele's butterfly flew right past all those other Bronya's until she reached the Core of Reason and flew into it, then the two butterflies emerged and flew away together. It's quite beautiful, especially when you understand this interpretation of the credits. I wholeheartedly believe that this was the interpretation mihhoyo had in mind at least. Seele had gotten lost in the Sea of Quanta, hence when Bronya ended up there she started looking for her while there Regarding Seele's two versions, I don't think it has been officially clarified, but the assumed reason is due to her have been implanted with a certain gem that can eventually become a Herrscher Core, namely the core that embodies both life and Death, with Seele representing Life and Dark Seele representing Death.

'Meteoric Salvation' is the end of a long arc where Kiana is struggling constantly for control with Sirin -- it's one of the only places where you can get a Bad End. So it's important to see how she's able to use her Herrscher powers at this point, as it also shows how much she's grown. The bat is a reference to Kiana's main weapon in _GunGirlZ_ , as well as Kaslana tradition at this point. Except in this case it's probably made of the material for HoV's Subspace Lances. I also like her mix of old and newer skills: Neko Charm and Time Fracture are things she's had since her first battlesuit, White Comet. But she's also using HoV's portals, lance, and control over space. And then there's how, when she goes full Herrscher, both her eyes are blue, showing full control at this point, even though she's been bathed in Honkai energy. And then, at the top when she's about to run out of steam, she friggin headbutts the Honkai bomb. Ha! Of course, she also facetanks the explosion after, so that's not good. But considering the alternative was to let the bomb detonate in the middle of a densely populated city, the much better alternative. Visions of Himeko will forever propel us onward, while making us cry. Song is called 'Starfall.'
