I literally thought we were about to lose Xiao as they killed Signora so the thought of losing one more character was growing with me with that Xiao's Dangerous path approval from Zhongli,that broken mask (thats one of the main thing i was worried about as a Yaksha their masks is one of the main things for them) and with the breaking of the mask and platform and saving us by sacrificing himself. I was like this is what xiao was trying to do when arguing with yelan and now he has done it he saved us all by sacrificing himself. This feeling was also amplified by the music god the music slaps But thanks to Zhongli our General Alatus Survived Thank you Zhongli Thank you Xiao we love you

The fact that Yelan cared and respected Xiao enough to stand by his orders when he tried to fuel the compass, even though she knew it was dangerous shows their relationship is based on mutual trust, also evidenced by their voicelines on each other. Along with the fact that when he was about to send them back, she immediately turned and reached out to him. Then the final screenshot came where she looked at the ground with a bit of resigned anger, as if berating herself for not being able to pull him back from the Chasm.

yelan and yanfei was the first two people that really showed they cared for xiao. my dudes been battling monsters since the archon war and lost his friends hundreds of years ago. to see yelan and yanfei give xiao some care and love really made me love both of them so much this quest. and to see xiao accept their advices or their words to move on was sooo special because now he knows he can rely on them not just the traveler. great character arc for xiao and the rest of the gang

This scene broke me so much. I started the game at the start of Xiao's banner. I saw him and thought he was so pretty, so I pulled for him and got him in the end. I didn't even know who he was yet. I've mained him since the beginning, and I've grown so attached to him over the years because he was the character that got me through everything. Seeing him try to sacrifice himself and damn near die got me crying. I knew he would try to, because that's who he is, but still. Ah I love him so much.

I like how much Xiao respect Zhongli and how much Zhongli care for Xiao. Even after retired as being an Archon and living as a normal human now, Xiao still see him as his great Archon and Savior he once knew and still required his permission to do something, talking in respectful tone and manners when talking to him. While Zhongli, although he is already retired. He's goes his way to save him in the time of needs, even after he entirely put down his duties and giving full responsibility to all people of Liyue to look out for their own self. I guess Zhongli truly cannot move himself from protecting his nation, I bet if Xiao didn't manage to save them all at that time. Zhongli already prepared just in case something like that ever happens.

Absolutely agree. It's nice to observe this dynamic in the little things. Like the permission scene. Xiao speaks more formally/respectfully to Zhongli compared to others, though it's more noticeable in the other dubs. Then there's the way he lowers his eyes in respect, how he teleported in a kneeling position then stood at attention. (When usually, with the Traveler, he just appears in a flash, already standing with his hands crossed over his chest or something.) And while Zhongli makes sure to look out for him, he's not overbearing, since he knows Xiao can also look after himself. Like how it's implied he regularly sends Xiao medicine, or in this scene, how he saves him from a distance and left as soon as he ascertained that Xiao would be okay. 🥲

the detail that REALLY got me is when xiao uses his power it always has a tinge of black to it, which is sort of a symbol of the latent corruption to his soul. but when he teleports the rest of the group away, the energy he gathers is so pure and clear it’s almost white. it really drives home what he says about the yaksha facing their destiny of sacrifice without fear; even centuries of karmic debt couldn’t touch the purity of what he was about to do. any other xiao mains feeling emotionally destroyed but completely fed? 😭

Zhongli has both “the wrath of the rock” and tenderness within him. His geo energy cushioned the fall and setting Xiao down on the surface so gently. The way that Xiao was glowing golden for a little after being saved and seemed to have regained his energy, I wonder if Rex Lapis did something to help him. Either way, thank you geo daddy for saving all of us from heartbreak that we may never have recovered from. Another reason Zhongli is awesome🥲

For what i seen, Xiao able to teleport everyone to the surface because he already sensed the overworld energy. And Zhongli able to sense Xiao because he is still near the surface is probably made the rescue possible.

Zhongli live for more than 6000 yrs he is a powerful being and he got the gnosis in the archon war 2700 yrs. Zhongli former title is god of war he killed many god or sealed them and that time he didn't have a gnosis. So it impossible for him to be weak because of the gnosis taken from him!

Zhongli doesn't often show favoritism, but judging from the fact that he lets the "new" Liyue fight Osial and Beisht by themselves but has to step in to save Xiao here MEANS a lot. People were doubtful if Xiao knew Zhongli is Morax, or Zhongli kept any contact with Xiao after retirement after all: this scene is the answer. They are still the same. Their bond cannot be broken even if the contract is now null and void. They will continue to watch over Liyue, and watch over each other's back, until the end of time.

Zhongli is the type of Archon who would only step in if the outcome is already at it's worst. He did reiterate that if the Qixing and Traveler failed an things got worst he would eventually step in and save the day. Saving Xiao at the last moment just proved that.

He'll be a very important reference later on for us to compare the Archon's to. Now that we know Ei is much older than we thought she was, the first three Archons are good bases to compare the Dendro, Hydro and Pyro ones to later on. The reason he'll be important is that Morax's story is complete, he acheived everything and he's now riding the epilogue of his life story, he's a god who best represents the "Diamon in the rough" metaphor, Venti calls him a meathead with disdain likely remembering the Archon wars and how Morax murdered gods willy nilly, but Zhongli is a different person to Morax was back then, the many people who walked alongside him on his journey over thousands of years mellowed him out and taught him many things. Ei is a character who has only just begun her final character arc, she now must use the wisdom she attained with the Traveler and Miko's meddling and apply that to herself so she can improve and reach the peak of what she can become as the God of Eternity.

my theory is that when they were all in the bottom of the chasm time wasn't really ticking fast. on the inside it seems like they have been days/months, but in reality they've only been there for a few hours. after xiao asked permission from zhongli to go into the depths of the chasm to search for the nameless yaksha zhongli knew that xiao would sacrifice himself just to search for bosacius. when xiao entered the chasm zhongli had been following him, making sure he was safe. he knew that xiao was with the traveler and the others. while waiting for the team to escape he waiting outside ready to lend a hand if soemthing happen. when he saw that the team was outside but xiao was no where to be seen, he knew what he had to do. this is just my interpretation on how zhongli save xiao it's not really true I just love the father son combo of zhongli and xiao

this makes sense. but we also have to consider zhongli being a god. he sure may have retired from his post as an archon, but he is divine by nature. gods are known to be omnipresent, they see/hear/sense what's happening everywhere, anytime in their region. so perhaps, he wasn't really there from the very start

Just finished this quest. Wow, this time, this story line really is fearful threat to traveler and team, to almost cost one of our teammate. Everything is so perfect to the emotional level, Yanfei's wit, Yelan's trauma, Itto's nature, Shinobu's care, Xiao's decision and Rex Lapis' assistance. Thanks Meloo, for recorded all these scenes, including all in past, for us to relive these emotions again.

As a Xiao Main I too have grown attached to him. So me seeing him almost die, and saved by Zhongli literally made me cry so much! Edit : I just watched the Cutscene in Genshin, and I actually cried this time 😭😭. I feel like watching it in Genshin makes it more compelling. this scene hits harder when you understand the reason why yelan reached out to grab xiao was because yelan had previously lost her last squadron due to how dangerous their field of work is and developed survivors guilt as a result. she didnt want xiao to sacrifice himself because it reminded her of her past

thank u Zhongli for looking after ur Child even after uve retired, what a nice touch at the end the relation ship between the characters, yellan using her ult to stab them with her strings and yanfe using her fire to ignite her string to do greater and more explossive dmg, Xiao abt to die and excepting his fate, zhongli steping in to help him like that, i thought i was, no i was abt to cry on that last scene, and how nice too see some of the cappabilities of the Geo Archon, we might not know what he trully can do but every time seing a pinch of his power in action sure does feel nice and rewarding, "yes i am a fan boy of him and a Main of Zhongli" even in that scene when he gets those things from the traveller and levitating them to trow them in to the see, it was a nice scene to know that he can levitate anything at will if he wants to by applying his geo on to it. THATS HOYOVERSE this story was amazing OMFG

For anyone questioning why didn’t Zhongli save us at the beginning and almost caused Xiao’s sacrifice, here’s a piece of detail(kinda) in the cutscene: When Xiao unleashed his full power to break through the trap of Karma, we could finally see a faint light glowing above us meaning we’re probably breaking the barrier of time and space between the underground chamber and the real world. Only by then can Zhongli recognize we’re probably in trouble and come to help.

This is the best story quest i have ever played. I felt tears in my eyes and i almost cried when Xiao tried to sacrifice himself. And when Zhongli saved him, i couldn’t do anything but just stare at the screen with my tears. As i expected the quest got us in tears and pain and i am glad that Xiao is okay. I love Xiao :,) When i saw his past once again and heard his scream in pain, i got in pain too. But when i saw them happy, i got happy :,)) My heart breaks to see Xiao in this way i want to see him happy and get what he deserves and not karma anymore.

5:29 (if it's too long to read ignore it) I immediately suspected what was going to happen and this legitimately gave me PTSD. I won't set foot in The Chasm ever again. I'm glad I farmed for Heizou before I did this XD Still, god that hurt so much I hated it but also loved it for some reasons. I cried so much when he was saved I literally couldn't stop crying and I'm starting to cry again. I wish I could forget the scene just to experience it again. Yes I'm probably a masochist but I love how MiHoYo perfectly managed to do this roller coaster of emotions. It all started with us being trapped there after all, at least for me this is how it went: Even if I could still wander around the map I could feel their exhaustion of being stuck there and they portrayed that well, Paimon fear of dying there which made her panic and everyone happiness at a chance of leaving which also had effect on me. The cool animation and the thought "will they do it? Will they fail?" then Xiao getting tired and sacrificing himself to save everyone, Yelan reaching out to him and Aether running to him everytime he was back clearly worried. The fear of losing him and the disbelief of him being safe and sound. Everything from the part where Paimon panicked afraid of dying and wanting to leave till the part they got out is the best part of the Story Quest to me at least. MiHoYo really outdid themself with this and it was amazing.
