Fun fact: in Genshin, Golden Apple was created when Venti launched chunks of mountain from Mondstadt. In real life, the folktale of Ha Long Bay's origin was that Dragons were sent from the heavens to protect the mainland from invasions. They launched jades and gems which turned into stone mountains that protected the shoreline. Hence they named in Descending Dragon (Ha Long) Bay

The issue is not only about the locations... They put the culture, folklore, music, fairy tales, language expressions and even local jokes in each region they make, all this should be only known or understandable by natives from those regions in real life. I still remember the first time i arrived in liyue it was so mesmerizing, i just stood beside the teleport and took lot of pictures of the scene. The location is strategic where the city faced the sea. Thats why i stay in liyue, even though im not chinese, i grew up from a village near the sea and we have a little town where most of them are chinese, so their culture is very familiar with me. The hot sun above your head during the day, the sound of the sea waves carried by the wind, the wooden bridge where you sit as you watch the phenomenal scene together with your friends. Then at night, you see lots of orange tanglung hanging across the street. It is even better when its raining that you can see the reflection on the wet street🫠

Fyi for everyone coming by here, only a few of these inspirations are actually confirmed. Matterhorn was confirmed the main inspiration behind dragonspine by mihoyo during a collab done a year ago, and iirc Tianzi and Huanglong were also confirmed as inspirations (as well as wangshu inn's inspiration which wasn't in this video) Most of this is speculation. But it is worth mentioning that back at the beginning of Genshin it was mentioned in an interview that they wanted to include irl locations to encourage people to visit places around the world. Whether that's still their plan is very unclear considering they haven't really brought it up again
