to be fair irl maps are like that too, i got updated versions of maps and they are missing a lot of stuff in my country, why would anyone map recent camps made by hillichurls in all maps? the story states that they got attracted recently to the area, why would anyone put on a map places that only have minimal grass as a path leading nowhere, maps in the old days were super innacurate too, i got several of them and they are very basic.

@@RebekahHaasCrochet yeah, they do it every few months but a lot of stuff changes very fast, if im not wrong old maps were updated after years or even decades, it was very expensive making updated maps back then and only people with money had access to them, ingame map is supposed to represent us mapping the areas not really stablished maps, after all theres areas people has never seen too like enkanomiya or chasm dephts, in the case of other games that include every little detail in their maps it looks too crowded, elden ring map is 10 times more vague than genshin but it fits the game, is mostly landscape and barely any interest point is on it, you need to mark them yourself or remember them.

The road to the Statue in Windrise has bothered me for years, as did the Guyun Stone Forest beaches. There was an event years ago where you could take a Waverider around the Guyun Stone Forest, and it was absolutely not built for that place cuz what looks like easy shortcuts aren't really cuz everything is too shallow for the boat to go through things.

I've also noticed how the roads don't line up on the map even before her video. If you want to see for yourself, just follow paths on the minimap to get to places and you'll quickly get lost.

Yep it is wrong and always has been wrong. Lore says that it took Zhongli and Co. 4 days to travel from Guili Plains. It takes us in game a couple of in game hours? Rural areas, like Layla’s village, are either non existent or massively scaled down. The map has defo been scaled down to make it playable. A to scale, full sized Teyvat map would be super tedious to traverse.

I'm glad she makes the distinction at the start of the video, because a map in a game can be viewed from differently, either as a documentation of the actual land, or as UI for the player Some players might miss a few landmarks or details, like roads, paths, landmarks and such, but in the end most of that would clutter the map with redundant information. Something I believe could be a reason to unclutter a map is to give the player more freedom when exploring. If there's a landmark or a road on the map, some players might be too focused on those points of interest instead of roaming through the entire area. Adding clear paths to the map might be seen as pointers, like "Hey, this is a road, you know whats at the end of it: a Destination, a Goal", when in reality nothing is waiting at the end. The paths that do exist are already used to guide you to places where you can expect people and quests and shops. The road from Mondstadt to Liyue Harbor is a perfect way to get you from one Archon Quest to the next, while picking up Statues of the Seven along the way. Obviously alot of people also just roam around ignoring all preconceived "guiding paths", but they also can look at the map and understand "Maybe I should approach those areas, there seems to be something there. TLDR: The things the map already shows are carefully chosen to actually "guide" the player throughout the regions by highlighting places where there's stuff todo. Adding detail to the map is a fun thought experiment, but definitely not an "improvement" to the user experience. Love the video!

50:37 Nilou was done dirty from the archon quest to her story quest. No offense to Ayaka or Nilou mains, I hated these two characters, or rather is should say, these characters could not exist and i would not mind. They were such bland token "I am the pop diva girl of the region" vibe. Heck Barbara in her hangouts had more personality than these two combined. BUT the simulanka quest actually gave her a personality, and showed us that Nilou can legit be quite smart and resourceful when she needs to be. I like her now, i still don't like ayaka much, but i like Nilou now. Simulanka saved her character tbh.

What would’ve made Ayaka better imo is instead of dancing in the water in her socks, she could speak with the Traveler about her family past as a means of attempting to empathize and reassure the Traveler who is looking for their sibling, and then attempt to lighten up the mood by freezing the water in the pond to have a little sparring session with the Traveler to let off some steam. I think it would’ve made her much better.

You can even see the "secret" island in the opening cutscene, in fact I'd go so far as to say it was placed where it is so that it would be obvious in the opening cutscene. They could have put it anywhere, but they specifically chose to put it there. I believe it used to be closer but they moved it farther away sometime before release based on some different versions of the opening scene that are on YT.

38:00 Erinnyes forest has such interesting lore and it feels like it was done dirty. Like for any of these significant places, there is always a quest that not just takes you around there but also "explains" the value of that place. Narcissenkreuz takes you around its locations. But the only quest that actually addresses the water spout and the two giant trees, is the Pahsiv quest. And the poor child cant speak human and cant explain the history and lore behind these places. I feel sad, i feel there should be one more story quest there, that tells us about these places. Erinnyes forest is actually very important as that is where the Lochknights essentially originate from, Erinnyes was actually the leader of the Lochknights when they united the entirety of Fontaine against Remus' tyranny. When Remus finally fell, Erinnyes and the other Lochknights, established their Goddess, Egeria as the hydro archon. Infact, Furina's sword is actually Erinnyes' personal sword. Erinnyes was distraught about the prophecy and wanted to find a solution. So she asked Egeria about it, and egeria told her that there is no way to escape the heavenly punishment. Demotivated by it, Erinnyes threw her sword into the lake but it kept coming back to her, so she made a prophecy/blessed it(?)..that someone seven ties as virtuous and brave as her would one day wield this sword and this time the sword finally sank, essentially declaring the next owner to be a hero. And viola, Furina became its next owner. Erinnyes wasn't exactly a kind and brave warrior. She had utmost faith in egeria, but she was also ruthless and manipulative(at least that's what i get from the text). She had noble goals but she was essentially willing to stain her hands dirty for it.

Forget getting 'to that point'...I would have been carrying the dog from the start. That looks like an unstable bridge. UNLESS the dog likes to swim but then doggo probably would have jumped into the water and not fall into water. Also...as a person who learned to read maps from big old paper maps with her dad (those were the biggest pain to fold back up!) I have always used Genshin's map as a very good suggestion. I think the map is on purpose not drawn correctly. Otherwise we will know exactly where everything is.. But honestly, maybe they can add some "once you completed this quest or collect all the oculus or whatever, you can have the whole map unlocked" (they did that, spoiler coming, with the maps on sumeru when you fought the machines, the sinking tower in fontaine, the changing colour of the after of some quests.. they can do that). The map is getting bigger, people might forget how to go from "y" to "z".

As much as I like the idea of having a more detailed map, even being so successful as Genshin is, I doubt it would be ideal for the UI developers to spend more time on this details when they have to work on the depth versions on most of the new areas that they been doing since I think one update from 4.0 I mean, we're talking about a game that after 4 years, now it includes the option to press a key to choose your response during dialogues without the need to click it 🤣🥲 At least they should improve the roads though 💯
