.... The laugh that love could not forgive, Is gone and tells no more to live, And we who look in beauty's love; Must now, through all, look back on before The tears that I first cried, no more; Your love has come and gone, no more And we who look in beauty's love Must now through all think back on before Sleep while the sweet sorrow wakes my daydream Sleep while you think of me with Kindness, please remember former days And you know, and you know And you know, when we two parted in tears and silence Past the days, the parting ways Fare thee well, fare thee well, you That was once dear to me Think of me with kindness Think of me

I am now 62. I was used to listening to GG in the 70s and in the 80s, and although I loved their music, I did not have in those days the wiseness to fully understand the greatness of their compositions. After so many years I asked myself which of their song would be my favorite one and I realized that "Think Of Me With Kindness" is most definitely the one I'd choose. I would put it inside my favorite playlist with the other songs "of my life"

[Verse 1] Why am I using words No more to say without you Close the door, put out the lights and go [Verse 2] Late at night, in the night Your shadow falls between us Nevermore, I'll never know [Pre Chorus] There, memories are sorrow When there's no tomorrow [Chorus] Sleep while the sweet sorrow wakes my daydream Sleep while you think of me with kindness Please remember former days Sweet the song that once we sang That silent parting ways And you know And you know [Verse 3] And you know, long ago When first we made our promise Empty words, I wonder did you know [Bridge] The laugh that love could not forgive Is gone and tells no call to live And we who look in beauty's love Must now through all think back on before The tears that first I cried, no more Your love has come and gone, no more And we who look in beauty's love Must now through all think back on before [Chorus] Sleep while the sweet sorrow wakes my daydream Sleep while you think of me with kindness Please remember former days And you know And you know [Verse 4] And you know, when we two Parted in tears and silence Lost the days, the parting ways [Outro] Fare thee well, fare thee well You that was once dear to me Think of me with kindness, think of me

Recently learned the french horn solo in this song is actually a mellophone, a kind of french horn usually only used for marching. Found it pretty interesting, just further goes to show Phil Shulman's immense talent
@JamesPrater-p1w4 ай бұрын
It's not a mellophone. It's a valveless trombone (bass trumpet). The mellophone is a close cousin to the French horn. 😀
@kingd82324 ай бұрын
@@JamesPrater-p1w I wasn't aware of that! I was going off of the official sheet music from GG's website, which has that solo written out for mellophone. Do you have a source for the bass trumpet thing? I'd like to read up on that
@JamesPrater-p1w4 ай бұрын
@@kingd8232 I wasn't aware that you were going by their site. I was going by the sound of the instrument itself as an arranger/orchestrator of thirty-plus years. The source I refer to regarding the bass trumpet is Samuel Adler's THE STUDY OF ORCHESTRATION. 😀

I'm transcribing this and recording the whole shebang with trumpet(s) for vocals. SO MELODIC AND AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Well, maybe cornets and trumpets - cornets are SO SWEET. A cornet should take the 'lead' vocal. Yeah? Sheesh... maybe NO trumpets, although I have a super fat and rich sounding Bb trumpet... Hmmm....
