Dear Nicole Every time when you speak about the technique of using 3 purl stitches to make it easier to take up stitches in socks I am so pleased because you reinvented something that seems to be taught in Germany for a long period. My husband owns socks that were made by an elderly lady obviously in the 90th using this method. I adopted it 20 years ago and I am still happy with it. It is so nice to think that we knitters are confronted with the same problems for decades and are sure to find the best solution no matter where and when we knit. Thanks for your lovely podcast which I enjoy to watch. Simone

Hi Nicole! I've been following your podcasts, and they're such a joy to view every time you put another out for us. Thank you. I want to promote an idea, if you don't mind. I watch several knitting podcasts from time to time, and I wonder why no one ever shows any donation knits. I'm not saying that we as knitters are obligated to donate any of our work, that's an individual choice. But, one thing I love is knitting for donations. Here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, there are several homeless encampments and I've been knitting some scarves, mittens, etc. for the tenants. It's such a great opportunity to try colors or yarns that I wouldn't necessarily pick out for myself, like knitting with bright colors (not my personal taste), but it's so much fun to try new things when I knit for others. Thank you again for your contribution to the knitting community.

Thank you for watching, and for your kind words. I think knitting for donating is a wonderful idea, and something I plan on doing more when I retire and have a bit more free time. And as you mention, it's a wonderful opportunity to keep others warm, and play with new colours and designs.

Hi Nicole, it's great to see you again, it is great to see you looking so well and happy. As I believe I have said before, both my sister and my mother-in-law suffer with thyroid problems. My sister's is over active and my mother-in-law's is now under active, but it was over active when her children were little. I got rushed into hospital myself recently with a heart problem, I have Marfan's syndrome which does affect my heart and I have had three lots of heart surgery during my life. This time though scared me, mainly because I didn't know what was going on. I had a resting heart rate of 120 bpm, that was when I was laying down, then when I stood up it went up to over 200 bpm. Thankfully they transferred me from Accident and Emergency to my usual heart hospital. There they told me that I had atrial fibrillation and would need a procedure done but with general anaesthetic. They went in through a vein in my groin fed the wire through to my heart and burned a little section of the wall that was causing the disruption in my heart beat. I was sent home the day after which I was amazed at, but told that I needed bed rest for 10 days. My family have been fantastic at looking after me which I am very grateful for. One of the weirdest things about being in hospital now is that you can't have visitors. Thank goodness for mobile technology, it was the only way I could keep in contact with family and friends. Oh and so much rest time, means lots of knitting time, I love your cardigan,the one you have on, it's simple and pretty. I also love the three coloured shawl that you have finished. I may make one myself. Sending you lots of love from Liverpool UK! 😀💖💕

Your shawl in the Nutiden yarn is stunning - It was through you that I found their gorgeous shop and yarns so thank you! I was waiting for you to talk about those beautiful plates sitting behind you 🙂. . I had a sweater in mind for the yarn I have but am now rethinking it - that shawl looks so cosy. Glad to hear you are feeling better as well. 🙏

I fell in love with your girlfriend's cardigan on the video where you were wearing it. I also love the viola yarn that you used. I bought the pattern yesterday and I am trying to decide which color of Polwarth Alpaca I want to use. I was wondering how many skeins of yarn it took you to make yours. I'm thinking I could probably do it with four but I'm not sure. I'm planning to make the medium size.

I just discovered your podcasts which I find very enjoyable and I appreciate the time you spend making them. What I have found however is that I often don’t recall which podcast in which I saw a particular yarn or object and it’s hard to find the reference because you have to go back and listen to each and every podcast then pause and rewind to record the item.I don’t think it’s necessary to actually include links to things. I agree is helpful but time consuming, but even a list of yarns and items in the notes would be helpful. Regardless, thank you for the time and effort that you spend making an enjoyable podcast.

First time I’ve tried to watch your podcast. The ads popping up every few minutes made it really difficult to watch so I stopped. Would you consider adjusting your settings so that ads appear only at beginning of the podcast? Thank you.
@thegentleknitter4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carolyn, thank you for this feedback! I just checked and I was shocked to see that there are 13 ads on this video! I am horrified. In the past, 1 or 2 ads max would be added, but something crazy is happening now, with so many. I wouldn't be able to watch a video that had so many ads either! I have written to KZbin to find out what is going on, and for now I will control the midroll ads manually so that there are never more than 1 or 2 (on a longer video). Frankly I would rather have no ads at all, but KZbin puts them in whether I personally monetize my videos or not. By monetizing, at least I have some control over it. And the small amount of income that I get from them does help cover my podcasting costs. Hopefully you will find the number of ads I have in the future a bit more acceptable.

Lovely projects! Do you have notes/directions somewhere about how you knit your socks? I especially love the heel
@thegentleknitter4 жыл бұрын
I don't have any written-down notes, but it's extremely simple. Basically, use any top-down vanilla sock pattern that has a heel flap that is worked back and forth. You knit the first and last 3 stitches of the flap in garter (knit on right and wrong side rows). That's all there is to it. Hope this helps to clarify things.

Lovely to see you and your knits again. I would like to say I was slightly disappointed that you chose a designer who is not particularly size inclusive when it comes to garments, and that you did not add your voice to highlight Ravelry’s continued poor handling of in-accessibility following their latest updates. I do understand that not all people can take on all causes simultaneously and consistently, especially given how much of year 2020 has been so far!
@thegentleknitter4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback Hazel! I'm sorry that my pattern choice disappointed you. Were you referring to Ankestrick's designs? Before knitting their patterns, I had a look at several of their recent offerings to check for size inclusivity, because I absolutely agree that it's important for designers to make their patterns accessible to all. Recent sweater designs of theirs go up to at least 60", with most patterns going up to the high 60s. So I feel that overall they are size-inclusive, in a similar range to Jacqueline Cieslak's patterns (this may not have been the case for some of their older designs). That said, the Notice cardi I made only goes up to a 51" bust, and it should go higher. I should have mentioned that when I reviewed the pattern. The Girlfriend cardi I am working on now goes up to 56", which is better, but it definitely could be higher. In regards to the problem with Ravelry, I didn't know about it when I recorded this and only became aware of the situation a couple of days ago. But I absolutely agree that they need to improve the accessibility of their website as soon as possible! Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me, I really appreciate you taking the time to do so.
