It's been eye-opening for me to realize that binge eating can be exacerbated by having too much nutritional knowledge. I now try to stop myself from clicking on nutritional articles, especially ones along the lines of "Don't eat these foods if you want to avoid this horrible disease", lol. Well of course I want to avoid that disease so now I have to plan my new diet excluding those foods. 😭
@lorriredmon82122 жыл бұрын
I get that! Now I allow all foods. There is no "bad" or "good". I buy the things I like and plan meals from those. For right now in my recovery satisfaction is key.

Same, I get terrible health anxiety from certain KZbin videos ( unusually to do with IF) Dr Eric Berg is one of the worst for this and I had to unsubscribe. I had to remind myself the scaremongering titles are clickbait to ultimately get more views or sell a book or a subscription. I wish I’d never discovered IF, I feel like it’s given me a binge eating disorder I never had before I started fasting.
@lisak.126 Жыл бұрын
@@squirrelchicklet I've done IF and was actually doing pretty well with it, until I wasn't. There are people who can do great on IF but I've come to accept that will never be me. Any type of food "plan" or food rules/diet that I try to implement will backfire on me every time.

@@squirrelchickletI also unsubscribed from Berg. I did it for lots of reasons including what you mentioned. (I also do not want to contribute to the Scientology cult to which he belongs. His son has revealed much about that.)

I am not joking when I say that your channel has been more helpful in curbing my binge eating than the months I spent in formal ED treatment. I wish I had someone like you as my case worker!

I think I have overcame my binge eating, or a major part of it. I think that “learning” the effect of different food types on your body can help a lot. To me, I can differentiate between types of hunger; physical and emotional. When it is physical hunger, protein and a salad are the most satisfying foods, but with emotional hunger, I “allow” my self to have whatever I am craving to avoid the conflict. It is a journey and I am trying my best!
@TheBingeEatingTherapist2 жыл бұрын
That’s all you can do. I think cravings can be honoured too. When they are seen as superfluous and undesirable we can end up in a bit of a battle with them and end up eating more through fear of deprivation

This is MEEEEEEE!!! I’m so grateful to have found you. Over the years I’ve tried therapy, I had looked for an ED therapist in my area and tried a few other different approaches for help and couldn’t find what targeted me and what my specific issues are the way you do!

I’ve been struggling and I’m feeling this resistance to eat any „healthy food“ cause I’m thinking what’s the point! But like you said it makes me crave more sweet food and simple carbs. Eating can feel so frustrating and difficult. You look great btw! 🥰

Eat more, earlier and getting out ahead of my hunger. I know you've said it before, but I didn't hear it until now. Getting after those ideas right away. I might have to give the 'adding in foods' to my plan a shot too. I haven't seen any real move towards health sustaining foods since allowing all foods and eating what I crave. I sometimes don't feel well after eating only what I crave/want. Consciously slipping in one or two fruits and vegetables might also be and intention I set. I just might feel better. Thanks so much!

i only found your channel about 6 weeks ago. I had been in OA for 30 years and did the diet route on and off that whole time. I am 60 and finally haven't binge for most of the last 6 weeks. Also have given myself permission to eat sugar and I am not binging on it. It seems like allowing myself to have pie and keep it in the house means I dont want it hardly at all. I liked the first piece a lot. It was freeing but the pie just sat in tue fridge for days. I thought about it but it wasnt a struggle to have it or not have it. This is new to me but I feel this calmness about food. In the past I didnt keep food in the house and shopped daily. I feared having a full fridge

The end of the video was my favourite. Where you said take a breath... Its not all or nothing. I had instantly tensed up and started planning these 5 things without even realising! I felt relief when you said take a breathe because that was the old way I dealt with it and I don't have to do that anymore

Hey Sarah, great video! I was wondering if you have any videos/could make a video talking about using food to cope with physical discomfort or pain? I realized recently that food and overeating is an escape from feeling my chronic pain, it feels impossible to give up when it is such an escape (although very short lived). I know there are other ways top cope, but they often require movement (which hurts) or concentration (which feels impossible while I'm in pain). I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!

I like to think of nutritional tips with something like this line: “Maybe trying this will make my body feel good, no worries if I don’t notice anything different, I don’t have to follow it.”
@NorthernNessa5 ай бұрын
For example, for three days I drank 1 Tblspn of ACV in the morning with water and it completely shut down my digestion! I felt so uncomfortable that I will never do that again. But maybe it’s so helpful for someone else!
@NorthernNessa5 ай бұрын
Another example, positive this time: My mood is amazingly affected at least for the morning if I take an early morning walk. I miss it when I can’t fit it in! (Four kids, love them, but yeah!)

I wonder why my binge foods are fat oriented rather than sugar oriented. And if I do too many binges, I get gallbladder attacks.

Have you been losing weight? If you don’t mind me asking
@TheBingeEatingTherapist2 жыл бұрын
I notice I feel sooo reluctant to respond to this comment, but I don’t want to be disingenuous either. My weight has decreased by a small amount since summer (not enough to go down a clothes size) and it was not intentional. I’m surprised it would be that noticeable. There are roadworks going on in the street so recorded this and my last video on my computer because the sound set up is different and I can cut most of the drilling out (you may have noticed I sound a bit different and the odd word drops a little). I think the wide angle lens on the computer makes me look different, which may be a factor. I appreciate I’ve gone into a massive over-explanation, but as someone who promotes not pursuing weight loss I wanted to offer a full answer.
