Jeff Rolka is the Bob Ross of singing! Thank you so sincerely for all these videos. I do this one every morning, and I have for two and a half months. I appreciate this so much! 😄 I am looking forward to progressing, but when I move into the other mezzo warm up videos I sometimes get stain in my soft palate. How can I strengthen my soft palate so that I increase the flexibility of my voice and don’t hurt my voice trying to sing the beautiful melodies in my mind?
@JeffRolka6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I have to tell you, I really think about Bob Ross a lot and definitely had him in mind when I started doing these videos. I don't mention it much (really at all) but since you got it I figured I could mention it here. Interesting that your soft palate is getting a little strained/tense. You may be flexing some of the muscles there a bit too much. Next time you practice, see if you can sense any tension there. Sometimes snorting like a pig can help one identify the muscle groups. If you find that to be the case, see if you can allow it to release a bit. The 'ng' exercise can be very helpful at identifying and working with this as well and is featured in several of the videos. Best! Jeff

It doesn't have much to do with range, it actually has more to do where the singer's voice resonates, a soprano has a brighter tone than mezzo's.
@RosmertaOfficial5 жыл бұрын
This happened to me too. It happens to a lot of people as the voice matures, it's to with resonance and vocal timbre. 😂😍
@RosmertaOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Be gentle with your new instrument, get to explore it's capabilities. And don't let anyone tell you that you've been demoted because you're not a soprano anymore. And enjoy exploring new repertoire. 😊

@JeffRolka4 жыл бұрын
That's hard. I'm sorry you had that infection and have had to deal with in your physical being and now in your singing person as well. I see that you left this comment on the gentle warm up, you're in the right place. Think limited range, short, short practice sessions but multiple times per day if possible. When I have been really sick I at times have limited to myself to an overall range of just a perfect fifth. Placed in the most comfortable area I can discern. I might only do a single scale or two before resting, then coming back to do that scale again several minutes later. Be patient, be gentle, and take your time. Being a musician is an ultra marathon. If it takes six months, you'll still have gotten there in the end. Best, Jeff

Am I a soprano if I can’t reach the low notes you were playing? I feel like I am not on the right video even though I always felt comfortable singing in a mezzo high range 😅
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. In order to determine your fach (vocal range ie., soprano, mezzo, etc.) you have to work out the locations of your registration events. This includes vowel alignment and appoggio practice so that you're getting the most efficient balanced usage of your voice. Vocal fach is not based solely on what notes one can sing. Best! Jeff
