Overcoats are simply the best things to get vintage or second hand. I got two single breasted wool coats, a corneliani and an indochino, a navy trenchcoat and a longer ankle length dark grey coat. All of these were around 50$ each and compared to the retail prices it's really hard to justify ever buying one of these new. I've read that luxury brands today such as burberry burn unsold garments in order to keep the prices high and that's another reason to avoid supporting them.

Great video! I've just recently bought an over coat for a thriftstore/charity shop in the UK. It cost me £10.00 and I'm very pleased with it. I knew it was a good, heavy fabric and a nice tight weave. I Googled the maker: it was made by 'Invertere', made in England and a maker that predominately made high quality sporting coats and outwear. I'm very pleased with the coat and I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. The Gentleman's gazette produces videos of the highest quality :-) There, I've said it. Tony

0:58 This is why I love this channel. I thought the same. There's just something not right with modern coats and jackets, I think it's because fashion companies design their products to follow the current trends. Of course these companies need to stay in business, that's why they fit what the demand is, but at the expense of quality and style. This is the reality now. 2:11 Beautiful. No odd details that detracts from tradition.

I would be delighted if Fort Belvedere started making some nice thick wool overcoats (specifically long double breasted ones) I searched for years looking for a long dark double breasted wool coat with a large sailor style collar (basically a peacoat but "overcoat length") eventually gave up, had to buy a vintage military airforce overcoat online. Had it dyed darker, lined it with a nice tobacco plaid lining, and had it tailor fit. Was worth it, have received dozens of compliments, but it cost me well above 1000. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find something so simple and timeless like what i described - Definitely think there would be a huge market for it.

Keeping warm is all about insulation and keeping the body heat trapped. Yes, heavy overcoats usually will do that better than lighter coats in similar material. However, nothing beats the combination of a material breaking the wind and the down as insualation - nothing beats puffiness for insulation ;-)

God I really love pieces you have in your wardrobe. I was lucky to buy a vintage light long wool overcoat for about 33 euros in the men vintage thrift store. But because it’s the only men vintage thrift store in the city, probably in whole country where I live, it’s much more difficult to buy high quality vintage clothes for good prices. Especially things like overcoats. In the regular thrift shops even I visited quite lot of them, I’ve never seen any type of overcoat to buy. eBay or Etsy are than the solution. But not the best one too. Because when the seller of thing you want isn’t from Europe, the price for shipping and also for some fees isn’t usually very low. So the final price isn’t often so nice and affordable. I don’t want to complain, just say that it’s sometimes not too easy to have high quality mens wear especially when you’re student :-D. But I’m trying it anyway and your video really help me. Thank you. Grüße aus Prag :-D.

But I have a range of coats like these here, but however I do have a couple of massive rain coats that protect from cold icy rain like we are getting here at the moment. Loved this presentation, heading over to yourstore i the hope of getting some gloves. OBTW I get my hats from John Helmer Haberdashers, in Portland Oregon, really amazing gents outfitters as well.
