Really? You’re Native American? Are you aware that the Native Americans are not native to the Americas either? They travelled across the Bering Strait from Eurasia during the last ice age.

What you failed to mention is the males who are gay or are laid up with all ethnic groups of white women (every female not black) and also NOT AMERICAN instead of building for you. I lived in Portland for three years and know the American black and bi racial men and those immigrant black males and their mixed race immigrant sons are not helping and doing what they are supposed to effing do. There's "black businesses"-- the foreign migrant groups like the cultures of Ethiopians and Jamaicans and now those Haitians who helped displace your asses..

But yet because of history we are at the bottom of the racial wealth gap and systematically keep from generating wealth in this country. Unlike other race groups, we can’t pass down inheritance. Just like the wealth from slavery is still in the system- the poverty is too. WE CANT IGNORE THAT! That’s the reason that the problem still exist!!!

Weren't Asians also discrimated against in Portland? They were subjected to past laws preventing them from owning real estate. How come they are doing so well today?

@@portlandreviewer2143 Because (East) Asians are smart/organized while also having their shit together. Any response about the legacy of slavery is a bullshit excuse from other blacks about why we as a group haven't progressed as much as other marginalized communities.

@@sepulcher8263 I just Googled "income by ethnicity" and found that East Asian-Americans fall well below South and South East Asian-Americans in terms of income. It looks like the only East Asian-American ethnicity consistently in the top 5 are from Taiwan. Those from India and the Philippines have higher household incomes that those from Japan and Korea. The Chinese are closer to 20 on the list. I'm sure East Asian-Americans would love to erase these facts, since they discriminate against SE Asians. True, he poorest Asians in America are refugees from SE Asia, but the wealthiest Asians here are also from SE Asia.

Sure they can afford to live there. If you earn a proper education and meaningful degrees (nothing with the word, “studies” in the title) and then you will hard, then you can afford to live there. The neighborhood is cleaner, greener, safer, and relatively crime free.

It started in NW Portland back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Beautiful old homes torn down to put up condos and larger, modern homes. Now Portland is a pretentious place and unaffordable to the younger generation. Say "Hey Boomer" with a sneer. Keep in mind, the KKK marched in the Rose Festival parade at one time. Who remembers the Portland Police and the opossum incident?

I feel like people do not realize that gentrification especially in Portland effects not just black people but poor people in general. MANY asian, Hispanic, and caucasian people. My family lost our home on 6th and shaver that we had owned for over 65 years. I feel that if we stopped trying to paint this as just a black issue, and instead as an issue effecting EVERYONE, then we would be more successful in combating it.

If your family had furthered their education they would have made enough to afford to live there. If your family owned the house then you should still own it. If your family did not own it, then it was not yours. Work harder and work smarter.

@@bosslady2266 I understand just fine. I have been busting my ass since I was 15. Nobody ever gave me anything. I had to earn it. I grew up fighting every day against racists that wanted to murder me and I won every fight. I thank my father for passing on his Marine Corp fighting techniques. They saved my life growing up in the hood. NE Portland is my neighborhood. I’ve lived in Woodlawn all of my life. I worked hard and I earned my way. I own my home. Gentrification simply meant that the neighborhood is now safe for my grandkids.
