never really yoyo'd in my entire life except for a old wooden i had as a kid that broke pretty fast, so got myself a unresponsive yoyo yesterday. played with it for a fews hour to get comfortable and learned the bind. having a blast so far. i need alot more practise though. keep the tutorials comming! great stuff.

Can't wait to learn a quicker way to wind the yoyo. I have a replay pro and a Shutter as my firs yoyo's an still have to wind them by hand :) I know unresponsive is not the easiest way to start my yoyo career. But I'm able to manage a simple bind and do some good throws. I also learned my first tricks from the learn to yoyo series. And I have to complement Gentry on the Excellent explanation of the way the tricks work and issues you can run in to.

I'm right there with you; I haven't touched a yo-yo since I was probably 12 and now at 52 I went out and bought an unresponsive yo-yo. The learning curve is crazy! Like you, I've finally figured out the front mount and bind and am getting better at the breakaway (throwing it sideways) but still having issues getting it to bind that way. Stick with it and we'll get it together. :-)

fun fact: if a responsive yoyo has hubstacks, you can wind it fast by spinning the yoyo vertically (do it without the loop inside your finger for a faster wind)

I can't get my spinstar to sleep. If I give it any amount of actually power and throw it just bounces off the bottom and comes back up. I have a few other bad yoyos and I can get a really good sleeper with those but they don't spin for very long and the middle section is too thin to do any string tricks. Please help me out and let me know how to get the sleeper to actually work with the spinstar

You could try a different type of string that burns less if you don't have access to gloves. However over time, the more you practice with your YoYo the more your hands will get used to the feel of the string. They might callous a little bit but they'll get used to it pretty quickly.
