Sephora told me yesterday they no longer provide samples. I tried to get samples of Jazz Club and Noir Extreme which they didn’t have any bottles in stock. They only sprayed tester strips.

When I started getting into perfumes and collecting (finally having enough financial security to spend lots of money on them to find what works for me) of course I had to try Aventus and some of the other most popular niche. I found the Aventus didn't do it for me especially for what it costs. Of course the legend of Aventus kept me looking at it, other "inspirations" of it from other big brands, and finally at clones. The only one I fell in love with is a Aventus clone by Alexandria called Brasilia Prive which is based on its original formulation.

I think the reason people compare Cedrat Boise to Aventus is not because they smell the same but because Mancera takes the general note breakdown of Aventus and remixes it. You choose an acidic fruit at the top and then support it with a wood of your choice, some leather etc. Both are nice though. You can probably find a lot of fragrances that do a similar thing because the combo really works well.

You can still make your own samples at Nordstrom. I go in and make my own samples when I want to try a new fragrance out.

When you say "go in and make your own samples" are you meaning spraying test strips or ?

@@TADDs101 they have little sample bottles out where the fragrances are and you can spray whatever fragrance you want in those little bottles and test it out. I believe they’re like 1-2 ml bottles and heads up for the most part the associates are pretty cool if you start a conversation about fragrances and they’ll let you make as many as you want lol

Herod smells exactly like the cherry cough spray you know the one red liquid tates gross numbs the throat yup now its in a bottle for you to wear, it then dries down into a basic vanilla sent. This is one fragrance I've never understood the appeal

Since I got such great advice under the last video let me ask you guys for your advice again now that I'm earlier: I am rather new to fragrances. Right now I am searching for a "signature fragrance". I've smelled quite many perfumes in parfumeries and bought a few of the "crowd pleasers" (Dior Sauvage, etc....) I like keeping things simple and minimalistic. I almost always wear the same "classic and simple" clothing style (charcoal or blue sports coat) and I'd also like to stick to one "signature" fragrance if possible.... I really like the citrussy, fruity notes of the modern, popular fragrances, especially grapefruit and bergamot. But often I find these fragrances to be to much of "crowd pleasers", missing a mature, "authoritarian" twist. On the other hand I'm not a big fan of "fancy" notes such as the strong iris in Dior Homme Intense or strong raspberry. Now what I'm searching is a perfume that combines citrusy notes with a darker, more mature and classic woody (or maybe amber or oud) note. If you guys have an idea it would be awesome if you could help me out! If there are designer fragrances that fit these categories I would prefer them over super expensive niche scents because I'm not yet deep enough down the rabbit hole to spend hundreds of dollars on single bottle :D

Bvlgari Tygar comes to mind based on your preference for grapefruit and woodsy (fragrantica lists grapefruit, ambroxan, and woody notes). It's very pricy but Alexandria makes a clone called Black Panther. I grabbed a travel spray (10 mL) sized bottle on Amazon for $16 and can't tell the difference between it and a Tygar sample I have.

I got around to finally smelling Aventus, Profumo, The One EDP, and Herod...and all are a hard pass from me. None of the smells really stood out or blew me away by any means, which made wonder why they tend to get a lot of hype.

Because they smell amazing to 90% of other people. You’re just one of the exceptions (as we all will be for different fragrances). Think about it, if everyone smelled the same thing you smelled when you tried these fragrances, then everyone would “hard pass” on them, and they wouldn’t be hyped. So the only explanation is that other people are experiencing something different than you are when they smell them. 👍🏻
