True story - so when I was a freshman in college in '94 (yeah, I'm old shaddap) I had a dormmate who was like, "Hey, bro... if you want to come out with us we have to work on your personal style." And one of the things he introduced me to was Davidoff's Cool Water. It was my signature scent for literally a decade. Last month, I got a decant of Green Irish Tweed and did a side by side comparison between the two and while I like GIT, I am still a Cool Water fan. /storytime

Idk I was in 6th grade lol. Been a staple ever since. I’ve slept on it for a while tho. But it’s now back in the rotation.

I’m not lying when I say I wore curve for 5 years and got about a measly 2 compliments in that time frame. As soon as I started buying more colognes and switching it up a bit I now receive up to 3+ compliments a week. I haven’t got into any expensive colognes as of now, but this club de nuit intense man and Perry Ellis 360 red has been straight compliment heaven!!

Luna Rossa black, Layton, Carlyle, and Rehab for me are big compliment magnets. I've never received a compliment for Aventus, Elysium, or Cedrat Boise.

Dior Homme Eau is one of my most complimented fragrances also. It seems like every time I wear it I always get 1 or 2 compliments. I really enjoy this fragrance and I'm really surprised it doesn't get more love in the community. Everyone compares this to Prada L'homme but I like DHE better because on my skin it lasts longer and it's less expensive than Prada L'homme. To get compliments you also have to put yourself in a position to get compliments. 1. You have to spray enough that people can actually smell you , just because you spray it under you nose and can smell it doesn't mean others can smell it. 2. You have to look approachable , if your wearing headphones with your head looking down or at your phone and not smiling , well just how approachable does that person sound? finally someone saying unsolicited aren't as common as many would have you believe 👍 My 3 most complimented are xerjoff kobe , creed VIW & plum japonaise by tom ford. That got me 4 unsolicited compliments in the space of a few minutes and to be honest , i felt weird being the center of attention 😂

Also depends on where you are geographically, especially in the US. I'm from a small southern town where the vast majority of men don't wear fragrance, with the exception of Sundays for church, and even then, it's one of the oldies (cool water, drakkar noir, or AdG). So when I wear anything mass appealing from the last decade or two, like Sauvage, or even something cheap, like Voyage, I get tons of compliments from women, and many of them ask me what it is so that they can buy it for their men. Nobody watches fragrance reviews or knows anything about notes or spillage or projection or the difference in concentrations around here. That's why I love these lists. I can generally rock any of the scents from them and get compliments, simply because no one in my area has smelled them before. There's no Macy's or Sephora nearby, and nobody is blind buying online here. So if it doesn't come from Walmart, it's a safe bet that others won't have it. It's great for me because I'm known at work and the local stores/gas stations for being the guy that always smells good-all just because I'm the only guy in town that never leaves the house without wearing a different scent. I always laugh when watching these videos and they knock fragrances for being too popular or generic because I can still rock them like it's a brand new scent DNA and be a compliment god lol. The only downside is that I can't pull off anything floral, powdery, or vanilla based without getting told that I smell like a girl because people aren't too open-minded here. My tobacco vanille, which I love, has only gotten me one single compliment after multiple wears this winter. But it was an extreme compliment where the girl (a complete stranger) was over the top about how good it smelled.

Mr. Shlock beautifully written, Mr. Shlock. All of it rings true. My wife, also from the same small town, sees my collection as excessive. She can see it as a collection, but can't justify it, in her mind, as an actual hobby of mine, especially since she knows no one else that has so many bottles of cologne. As I mentioned, the select few in my community that actually wear fragrance have one signature scent that they wear for life. So she can't understand why I have so many. The funny thing is that when I say "so many", I mean just 30 (mostly 100+ ml bottles). She views it as a waste of money because she says that I can't possibly wear all of them before they start to go bad, and believes that I only should have 3 max for the basic occasions (work, summer, winter), and she really feels that one all-around fragrance is actually enough. Her favorite on me is also Givenchy Pi, but that's neither here nor there. My whole point is that you are absolutely correct on how small a minority we actually are as collectors. It gets lost when you watch these videos and read the comments, where everyone seems to be buying multiple colognes each year and rotating them for every situation. In truth, you'd be hard-pressed to meet many in the real world that actually do so.

If I can get 200ml that's better value but if not I'll get 100ml and another when it runs out if I really like like that I've learnt there is difference between EDP and EDT and I try buy both as I find EDP better for close encounters and most EDT more fresher and for daytime or clubbing

I have Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau De Parfum and it gave me 4 compliments from 4 different ladies in the office where I work at on the very first day I wore it. It’s truly a compliment magnet. You need to try it out, it’s way much better than the Eau De Toilette. Much longer lasting as well. Easy 8+ hours with 3 sprays

I've never received a compliment when wearing Dylan Blue, even though I enjoy it. I like the opening, imo it smells aquatic and nice, the drydown smells really similar to ADG Profumo

Wow it is so crazy that aventus is still on the number one spot of a most complemented list right now. I started to get into the fragrance world two years ago and it was the same at that point, Aventus was just everywhere and it hasn’t changed. I for myself also think that aventus isjust a beast. I now own the Armaf clone and I’m already really happy with the reactions of people surrounding me when I wear it. At some point I will definitely try to get a good badge of the original. I bought the sample pack from Parfums De Marly so I could try the Layton. After hearing all the hype around it from so many reviewers I had to check it out. However, my wife told me I smelled like a hamster cage at a pet shop hahaha! Once she said that I could only smell that also. Like the cedar wood smell is so strong. It was hilarious. The best alternative of Invictus Aqua is Rasasi Hawas which has beast mode performance, actually it has been released before IA by a year .. so that's a little fishy specially when Paco Rabbane discontinued that one and exchanged it with newest one a couple years after.

I get majority of my compliments at work. Probably 95%. Club Di Nuit Intense Man and Aventus are by far my most complimented. Got probably close to 10 compliments on those. *The funniest compliment I got at work (was helping a lady fix her tire, put some air in it).* *She was a Hispanic lady, didn't speak much english, but I was wearing Aventus and she said "Oooooh, your lotion!"* 😂 Got 1 compliment each on *Grey Vetiver, Mont Blanc Individuel and Bleu De Chanel.*

I totally concur. I have been testing Layton on my skin and I get much more positive reactions from Boss Bottled Intense edp and Zara Gourmand Leather. I know everything is subjective, but I think Layton is definitely over hyped and not worth the price point.

Dior homme eau is a compliment machine. Quick tip, layer it with molecule 01 and thank me later. I’d also highly recommend Dior Homme Cologne for the summer.

Nice list. I enjoyed the video. YSL-Y EDP is a better version, in my opinion, that the EDT. It is long lasting (I sprayed 5X in the morning and after 12 hours, I received a compliment from a woman who thought I’d just sprayed it). I’ve had a multitude of compliments - women and men, young and old. The only person who didn’t compliment me was my girlfriend. She didn’t recognize I was wearing a new scent. So there’s that....

When YSL Y was released I went to my closest Sephora to test it. I thought “mehh” and so did the women who worked there. I went into Nike next and the employees asked each other who was wearing the PERFUME 🥺. I find it too sweet and sharp. It’s odd to me. Prada Luna Rossa Black was an instant must have for me. It’s Sport with some body! Everyone loves it at work! Layton also was a must have. I’ve never reacted so positively to a first whiff ever. It’s the perfect blend of fresh/spicy/sweet. Excellent quality! I make my own blend of Aventus with the copycats + ambroxan + pineapple. I still can’t mentally handle spending the cash for Aventus 😓. I like fresher smelling batches. And yeah I get alotttt of compliments from other men from my Aventus blends. Some things I’d rather not repeat.

Yeah I will have to admit Aventus is great, a friend of mine is a HUGE collector like the youtubers and one spray of Aventus filled the room but I’m still like yeah... I have to still pay rent lol. I only have CDNI, Aventure and insurrection 2, so like $75 total, no biggie. He let me try x batch and I was so amazed by the quality. I’m just not in the right place right now to be buying MORE bottles, lol, but pineapple vintage anything is great

Pure Malt and Havane are some of my favorite non-spicy favorites. Very warm and a hint sweet for when I don't want to wear Spice Bomb. I've just found Havane doesn't have the same performance as Malt.

I go to the mall and tell them what I like and they really don't know how to recommend fragrances. My 2nd favorite is Mont Blanc Legend, any recommendations based on just those 2? I've used various discount retailers online for most of my fragrances, including other Creeds, but when it comes to Aventus I get paranoid that I will get a fake so thus far I've only bought it from Creed. It IS the best scent in my opinion and the only one I've received unsolicited compliments for, therefore I want to be sure I'm getting the genuine stuff. Thanks man!
