I've a 2018 Buddy 50, bought new. It presently has about 2000 miles on the odo. Unrestricted, my speedo shows 45 mph when I give it (the almost always) full throttle. It is a BLAST to ride! The salesman agreed with what you said, it's "bulletproof". He also said to ignore the "breakin" , and ride it like you stole it . Apparently, he knew the scooter well, because I never had to take advantage of the 2 year warranty, and never needed the towing either. It is, as you stated, made in Taiwan, the motor scooter manufacturing capital of the world, where quality materials go hand-in-hand with quality control - far removed from Chinese junk scooters. I compare the reliability of my Buddy to a Honda. I put a plastic milk crate on the back as a "trunk", and it serves me very well for small shopping trips to WalMart, barber etc. Otherwise, I bought a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 ABS KRT for my 74th birthday, and a 2018 Honda Grom for my 77th birthday - I guess that I refuse to be "old". I had one in texas and sometimes it would too hot in the summer and the engine would lock up. It had factory oil in it. Also its kind of a pain to check your oil level in them.

I'm worried now cause I'm like 350 (losing wieght every day) and recently got a buddy 50 it says limit of 320 then 230 on other sites ;^; am I screwed?

As far as the oil is concerned, between 2 and 4 cycle engines, which would you prefer and why?

2 stroke scooters are pretty awesome. Less maintenance and usually way faster. The Buddy mixes the oil for you so you don’t have to premix.

Check state laws Michigan moved up to 100cc for mopeds now I've never tried getting the plate so I'm not sure but probably needs to be insured to be on roads here. My county though allows golf carts on the roads yea crazy lol

Question: how many miles can it be driven for before it should be traded in or before it goes bad?

We’ve seen plenty of Buddy’s last 10-15k miles on the stock motor and top end. You’ll need a trans belt every 3500 miles and new clutch and Variator every 6-7k for optimum performance. They can last longer than 15k miles but most people sell or trade by then.

This is a 2-stroke so you add 2-stroke oil to the tank and change the gear oil.

Yes we change the gear oil at 1875 miles. The 2-stroke oil needs to be checked before every ride and filled immediately if the oil light comes on. Use 2-stroke FD certified oil.
