The "Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga Class of 1981 Reunion" arcade machine was released in 2000 by Namco. It features both classic games, Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga, in one cabinet. Ms. Pac-Man is a sequel to the original Pac-Man game, released in 1981. It features similar gameplay but with new mazes, enhanced graphics, and more challenging gameplay. Galaga is a popular space shooter game released in 1981, where players control a spacecraft and must shoot down enemy ships while avoiding their fire.
In addition to the two advertised games, though, there are a variety of secret codes and maneuvers that will allow to you play several more games and variations than is advertised, and here's one of them!

I played this combo arcade cabinet at an ice arena. Whenever I played Ms. Pac Man, it was always sped up every time I played the game, but until now I’ve come to learn something here and I believe someone did the code for that arcade cabinet allowing all of us players to literally play Ms. Pac Man sped up. This especially was noticeable as you can move your ship effectively for Galaga as well, but I am not sure if that required a different one or else.

It’s actually more of a toggle. If the Ms. Pac-Man settings were already set to fast, the same joystick sequence returns it to regular (slower) speeds. This joystick sequence works for Galaga as well.

This was the speed at my local arcade when I was a kid... I always thought that was the actual normal speed... Then I saw the original normal speed years later and I can't adapt to how slow it feels...

My old movie theater(R.I.P) had this exact same Mrs.Pac-Man/ Galga cabinet. It always had the sped-up version of Mrs.Pac-Man already programmed to the game. I never had to put in any sort of code to play the sped up version of the game.

Nice. Yeah, you can actually toggle the setting on by default in the operator's menu, and if so, then the code would turn it OFF.

I also used the code for fast Ms. Pacman at the same theater (The Great Escape in Massillon) that I used the code for rapid fire. The 40th Anniversary Countercade from Arcade 1up has a fast version of Ms. Pacman without a code.

The combo I know like the back of my hand: Entering "Up Up Up Down Down Down Left Right Left Right Left" for Blinky to turn into Pinky, and selecting Ms. Pacman will instead make you play the original Pacman

I saw a Ms.Pac-Man machine at a theatre in the 80s that was sped up like that. Funny thing about the cabinet is it was called Ms. Pac-Man Plus. I have been looking for decades about a sped up Ns. pac-man. Thanks for this. As to the cabinet. Wish i had a camera back then.

That speed-up chip made the rounds in lots of arcades as a way to breathe new life into Pac-cabinets. For many players, that's the preferred version of Ms. Pac!

While different, I remember going to an arcade auction in Dallas that had a prototype Ms Pac Man (done in clear plastic, which I believe John Carmack bought). I played way faster than the shipped version (though not just pac, like this video seems to show). Was the best game I ever played of any pac man. Has always stuck with me for some reason.

This must be the arcade 1 up version cause that’s not how you get the fast speed on the arcade machine you use the dip switch to make it go faster which is a lot easier

No, the A1U version uses discrete ROMs. The 1981 Class Reunion cabinet is what I'm talking about here. If you are the owner with access to the DIP menu you can set it there. Without access to that menu, here's how it's accomplished.

@@GenXGrownUp Well I never bought the arcade 1 up cause it doesn’t play the same as the arcade machine doesn’t have the same sound effects you can’t continue after losing all your lives the Ms Pac-Man Galaga 20th anniversary is a very different Ms Pac-Man game what arcade 1 up is giving is the original Ms Pac-Man I know that cause I own the midway Ms Pac-Man and midway Pac-Man I own arcade machines since 1994

I guess there's an option, maybe accident. where this is the default mode. I played a version of Ms. Pac-Man about a month ago, seems to have had the same speed mode. Scored 106,000 and made Act IV screen, whereas my usual score is roughly 15-20k.😅

That's correct. If you have access to the system's maintenance menu, setting speed-ups as the default is possible. In this case, the code will toggle to the standard speed.

@@SylveonTrapito Well, they don't necessarily have to be bootleg. The speed-up chip was widely available and installed in cabinets to change the game and extend their appeal. Maybe you're younger and didn't play back in the 80s before the speed-up was a thing?

No, the original cabinet was not this speed. Perhaps you didn't play very many different cabinets over the years, or didn't play when it was released. The speed-up chip was introduced some years after its release and is not the default speed.

Is there a code to do the opposite? When I find a machine with turbo set as the default, I want to undo it and play at regular speed.

You betcha. If you encounter a Class Reunion with the dipswitch set to turbo, the same code will toggle it off.

It's not a hack, but a code to activate a feature which you could invoke from the owner's menu. That being said, it only works on this Class Reunion cabinet, not standalone Ms. Pac.

No, the Class Reunion from A1U is individual game ROMs, not the combined ROM of the real cabinet.
