Local communities possess expert knowledge of their environment which can be represented on a map. Google Earth can be combined with participatory methods, empowering local communities to build their own maps. This session will cover the basics of how to create all the feature types - points, lines and polygons - for mapping community knowledge using the Direct-to-Digital method developed by The Firelight Group. We’ll also discuss best practices and methodology for engaging with local communities using Google Earth.
