Sometimes people that have pets die and they end up at shelters. Just because the bird cusses doesn't mean the owner was a bad person. They just had a potty mouth. The owner might have died of Covid. He was my pal. He drank from water fountains or with orange juice, walked through the local park, and he learned to talk...once he said, "Tula, come home" to himself after he walked into the house off the tree, cackling and laughing the whole time. I kinda feel that, but on the other hand I respect them for being honest & trying to rehome birds that have a good chance of a good life, rather than sending out ones that will likely come back to them over & over again, each time in a worse state than the last time, due to the rejection. By being honest with her, it also tests if she's really going to commit to a bird that most would find too much for them
@LizzyDidntDoIt2 жыл бұрын
@@mehere8038 that’s very true. Yeah, I see that point. Just like with dogs or cats. It just made me sad.
@mehere80382 жыл бұрын
@@LizzyDidntDoIt yeh, I see it more like a child with a bird, cause they're so intelligent, so like saying that a foster child is "crazy & you don't want him" It's horrible! but there are foster mums out there that are going to say "oh yes I DO want him! You watch me show you he's NOT crazy". So if it's done right & for the right reasons, it can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing, especially if done in front of the child/bird & the attitude carers use with the child/bird constantly tells them they're seen as crazy & unwanted by those caring for them. Doing that is the fastest way to make the child/bird act up & in the way they've been labelled. I do hope they're just trying to match well & trying to do the most good for the most number of birds they can & it certainly is possible that's the case. I like to try to be positive & give people the benefit of the doubt, especially people engaged in activities like volunteering to rescue troubled birds, cause it's likely they're good people at heart, with good intentions

I don't have any experience with birds, only fostering dogs (and some cats), but I lived in a one-br apartment with two or three of my own, also worked full-time and volunteered in rescue then. While I'd never say to an interested adopter "this dog's crazy, you don't want him/her", I think it's great that this woman kept visiting Vandal and developing a connection with him until she was sure. In my case, I'd usually say: "If I can do it, you can, too; but you've got to be willing to do whatever it takes." Interestingly, a few of the more challenging dogs got placed with adopters who then got involved in rescue as well (and were better at it than I was!) Meanwhile, my "foster fails" (who became my own) were the easiest, go figure. If you pose it as a challenge to someone, often they and you will know who's ready to rise to it. I imagine that given how long these birds live, the attention they require, how they bond or how stressed they get with change, a rescue might rather they stay in sanctuary than to be returned for whatever reason.

Hilarious footage of Vandal looking at himself in the coffee table. All pets have to choose their owners, it's the only way that they can bond with you. I wanted a cat from the shelter in 2007, my husband wasn't keen. However he came to look with me and a tiny kitten who was sleeping woke, detached herself from other kittens, jumped/fell from a chair and clambered up my husband's leg. That was the one we had to have. In 2015 he was sick and had to spend 6 nights in hospital. Every night she would do a careful tour of the house looking for him before subsiding on his side of the bed. On the 7th day when he finally came home she couldn't believe it was him. She ran to him at the door mewing loudly, he crouched down and she stood up with her paws on his knee purring and telling him not to go away again and leave her. It was so touching. He is her person. In 2022, 16 years later she's still with us, ruling the roost.

It would take a pretty cold heart not to melt when Vandal said "Papa!" I am thrilled Vandal found such a wonderful home. Parrots pick up the actions of others they are raised around, so it is no wonder if he was with a person who swore and threw tantrums Vandal picked up that behavior. The longer he is with your wonderful family, the more he will emulate you and your family. He is a character and so much fun!

I'm glad to see that Vandal got a great family, birds live a lot longer then people think they do, and I worry about them because I know they are left alone after their owners die or can't take care of them anymore...We had a bird and my husband couldn't bring himself to cut his feathers, and when the bird got away, my husband sat on the porch and cried...
@chey76912 жыл бұрын
I trained my birds after one of them got out, thankfully we found her. But I couldn't stand the idea of them getting lost, so I trained my lovebirds to free fly. First step is getting them to come to their name, and not spook to loud noises.

We had a green cheek and he flew out the window and my kids and husband were crying thank goodness we got him back. Unfortunately we lost him when we let a sitter take care of him. We had MANY more years with her. She was gonna buy us a new bird but my husband said no cuz no bird could replace our “Louie” to this day we want to get another bird but now we have 2 cats and my husband is afraid that the bird would get hurt.

Your video made me cry 😭, it is such a beautiful relationship. Recently a red-lored amazon came to my life because nobody else wanted to adopted him, I didn’t know if I would be able to make a good job, but when you said “you do not pick them, they lick you” my heart felt humbled because Iago (my amazon) loves me and I know he is happy with me and I am happy with him. Thank you.

It greatly bothers me that anyone could abandon such a beautiful animal.
@southernpaganprincess77394 ай бұрын
It’s not that they abandoned them. It’s that they made the right decision to rehome them because they adopted a pet they weren’t meant to have. Nothing worse than abusing an animal. Rehoming a pet even to the shelter is better than neglect or abuse. Shelters exist because people love animals and this is why they exist.
@pagandragon8303 ай бұрын
@@southernpaganprincess7739💯 You never know what happens to create situations that require rehoming. Things change - many times for the worse. It's good that people can give the animal a fighting chance with an amazing home. So long as they don't go to a kill shelter it's all good!
@clberka2 жыл бұрын
This (adoption) is pretty much the only way someone should end up owning a bird like this. They really just belong in the wild. Having said this, I'm a total bird lover, and would be the type of person to end up in this situation. Unfortunately, I know how long they live, and I have no children, so would never put a bird through this type of thing, unless it was a parakeet, or other bird that doesn't have such a long lifespan. I loved the video, and you are giving your sweet fourth baby the life it truly deserves. All the best.

I don't have children either and feel the same way you do - I would love to have a bird but won't live long enough to be a lifetime owner for the bird. I love your idea of getting a parakeet. They're tiny, but just as intelligent as the larger species. I'm sure there are plenty of them in shelters, too. Right now I have five cats so no birds for me, but I encourage you to give a tiny birb a home!

And being the amazing animals they are they’ll learn to ❤& trust again❣️ Thank you for letting Vandal choose you to do that for him:) I was chosen by an American Bully named Remi 4 years ago.. 💚 🦜 ❤️🐕

I always laugh a lot when I hear a human being (Homo sapiens, a primate, of the order of mammals) say: "animals know, do, say, etc etc" as if the human being were not an animal ! LOL It's really insane not even knowing what one is. WE ARE ALL ANIMALS! All sentient being are individuals and are intelligents and cutes. The word animals don't mean nothing, because you are an animals. This demented human-animal distinction is at the root of everything wrong and evil on planet Earth. At most we can speak of the various different species, but in substance they are all the same.

Great job selecting the one that no one desires. Pets do select their owners and Vandal selected you. Macaws mature around 6 to 7 years and select their mate, which probably why he choose you and your husband. Keep making him part of the family. My macaw was a green-winged and bonded with my wife, but he became dangerous when we had a baby as he was too jealous. We found an older lady who lived alone and needed a companion and Rocky bonded with her quickly - a great match.

Loved it when he whispered “hi baby” 🤣🤣🤣 Too cute, you’re both amazing people for showing this beautiful bird the love that he deserves. Side note, anyone that abandons an animal doesn’t deserve to have one in the first place. To people like that, animals are just objects to play with until their cuteness runs out. Makes me sick 💜💜💜🦜🦜🦜💜💜💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@okapaddathiokaplanning61562 жыл бұрын
Well, if you ask me, the cuteness never runs out. They could be old af and still stay cute all the same as when you first met them. It's the people who don't realise what an honor it is to be able to receive such unconditional love from a creature that's not even the same species as they are. most of the humans don't deserve to be on the same planet as these countless other beautiful, pure and majestic lifeforms inhabiting it.

Sadly as long as the law views animals as property to be sold and discarded they will be treated as such. The law needs to change to view them as living beings with needs that can feel pain and sadness. People who mistreat animals need to be given consequences just as if they were mistreating a human. The pain is the same.
