I could snap my fingers and it was like he knew what I was thinking. I couldn't have gotten a more perfect match. Nobody realizes how wonderful these dogs really are. He died in 2000, I miss him so much my heart still aches. Kiki, I miss you, thank you for being my friend. 😇

I don’t think most people know for sure what happens to most racing dogs, while they are racing. Everyone just assumes it is a traumatising experience for every one of them, but would it surprise you to know that racing can actually be done humanely. Yes the dogs do actually love running, they love any form of it including chasing the lure in races. There are far too many greyhounds bred, but just like any industry when you are trying to breed champions of any description, be it show dogs, agility dogs, sheep dogs, you name it there are too many bred to get to that one champion. Because greyhounds only race for a relatively short time, even if they are champions. They might only race for 2, 3, 4 years tops. The problem is most of them live 15 years and some many more years than that. We have had a few greyhounds in our time. One we had lived for 18 years. She had apparently been a brood bitch and had litter after litter. Unfortunately she ended up with Osteosarcoma in her hip otherwise she might have lived far longer than that. She was the most easy going, confident dog we had ever had. We have only ever had rescue dogs, or dogs other people didn’t want anymore. We have certainly had our fair share of shut down, truely traumatised dogs but Mumma wasn’t one of them. Apparently she had raced herself and then had who knows how many litters. She showed no signs of trauma at all. I don’t agree with greyhound racing at all, I don’t agree with horse racing, trotting or pacing either. In my opinion horse racing is a far more cruel than greyhound racing. Far more human intervention in horse racing. If I had my way all forms of animal exploitation would be shut down. However that isn’t realistic….

Agree 1000%! I believe every would-be parent should own a dog first. And every child should be blessed with the unconditional love that growing up with a dog typically provides. Having them in our lives teaches us so much! 💯👍 From how to be a “good” parent by parenting your fur-baby first to laying the foundations of emotional intelligence in your human children through the development of empathy, kindness & taking responsibility for the well-being of what will very likely become one of the most loving relationships you & them will ever experience (aside from each other hopefully). 🐶♥️

Years ago I adopted a couple of rescue greyhounds. And I suppose because they are raised away from a human home environment, they are initially quite disoriented, not understanding much of their new surroundings. Coming into my house, the first thing that made them cower was the ceiling fans - _not_ spinning mind you - just the presence of these _things_ on the ceiling. It took quite a few months of patience and constant reassurance, but eventually they came out of their shell to be very loving dogs. The one thing they never got over was the July 4th fireworks noise every year. I always stayed with them, lying next to them, in contact, trying to make them feel secure while they were shaking in fear until it was over. They were a couple of sweet boys and I still miss them.

Seeing that sweet child reading to her dog just touched me... When I was in high school, I got a pair of kittens, brother and sister, from free from a neighbor having a garage sale. I was finishing the Harry Potter series at the time. I'm partially blind, so the HP books were absolutely massive, coming in several thick Braille volumes. To unwind and relax, I would read the books aloud to them on the downstairs walk-in basement couch where it was quiet, no dogs. They'd just curl right up. I read to them outside too, sometimes. It was all of the last three books I finished over eleventh and twelfth grade. I have such memories, like when I was reading to them outside and left one volume of Order of the Phoenix out by mistake. It got rained on and pretty soaked, but the Braille dots all survived! Another time, one of the kittens, the boy, piddled on the edge of one volume. Yeah ... I was NOT amused. Our sweet kitty boy is sadly no longer with us, but his sister is almost seventeen and still with us. If I ever read out loud outside, she'll still come up to check it out. Her brother would too, when he was alive, despite them growing up to be naturally outdoor kitties. Now my family has a puddle of poodles. I ought to crack open a book and maybe get my little sister in on reading to them too. It's a lovely thing to do. I was so glad to see the little girl in this video bond with her dog so.

To anyone considering adopting a greyhound......go for it. I adopted two ex racers in England, one from Battersea dogs home in London, and one, 4 yrs later from a racing kennel that was shutting down in Dorset. I can honestly say I never had an issue with either dog. They were both great with kids, horses and other dogs. They are gentle and fun loving and do not need the huge amounts of exercise that everybody thinks they do. Two decent walks a day with a good run is sufficient as you will find most greyhounds in the home are cabbage potatoes and love to curl up and sleep, prefably on a sofa. Mine were both introduced to a cat in our home years later and lived happily with the cat till the day they passed. Please do gauge your greyhound before introducing smaller animals, I knew both of mine would be fine with a cat as they were both so laid back. Mine needed very little medical attention in the years I had them and they were both long lived, 18yrs and 16 yrs respectively. I would always recommend a greyhound to anyone prepared to give them a good home.

Beautiful spirits Georgia & your daughter have 🙏 Its strange to see Greyhound racing becoming more popular there in Australia while here in my home state of Florida ending Greyhound racing for good came up on the ballot a few years ago & was passed! 🐕 My mother (God rest her soul) & I were so happy their time as money makers for betting was over! 👎It is my hope & prayer that all the dogs waiting for homes find them & that some day the dog racing will end there too. God bless one & all 😇💙

I had a rescue greyhound. He had a very long racing career. He was such a silly, goofy, sweet boy. He died at age 9, which shocked us. I miss him.

This is beautiful! Thankfully in the states they have begun shutting down the dog tracks. Some states have banned it and the cruelty has made it not so lucrative. You must be so proud of your daughter for speaking on behalf of the greyhounds.

Have met people who race greyhounds and they were nasty unfeeling cruel people. They had no feelings what so ever for the dogs and if they hadn't won them any prize money after a short period they were "got rid of". And yet I had a friend who adopted three of them, and they were the laziest dogs imaginable they had to be bribed to have a run around and if you spoke nicely to them they might just let you squeeze up on the sofa. I loved them.

I loved watching her run run run!!! Greyhounds running is like poetry in motion. Gorgeous. She's lovely and I'm glad she's decompressing more and more every day. Sometimes it takes years and she's well on her way. Thank you for loving her. I love how greyhounds are leaners, too.

This brought a tear. Actually, quite a few. The love of a dog is a gift that can never be earned, but only a rare few know how to accept it.
