Welcome to the channel! Odds are you stumbled upon this video while looking up how to open a geode at home, right!? Well let me tell ya, there are a few different ways to get inside of these little mysteries from Mother Nature, and it can be TOUGH! So today I’m going to show you my FAVORITE method of cracking open a geode!
Fair warning, this does require a hefty piece of equipment, known as a chain soil pipe cutter, but one can be acquired for relatively cheap from and resale site, such as eBay, Craigslist or even FaceBook marketplace, AND you can even rent one from your local hardware store!
That being said, learning how to open a geode can be a troublesome and a dangerous task, so I’ll teach you 3 different methods, ranging in difficulty and results, in this 3 video series!
Method #1: Chain Soil Pipe Cutter!!!

That's really interesting. I haven't seen it broken down like that before (uh not pun). Pretty spoils too. I think I'd never sleep if I had that...until there was nothing left anywhere to crack. Cool video!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO, seriously I have been hoping for months someone would do this exact type of video so I am extremely grateful, I feel a lot more confident using my own pipe cutter/cracker now, I made 1 attempt & knew I needed better understanding & instructions, YOU just provided both so I Thank you✌🏻

It is my pleasure! When I got mine I noticed there wasn’t anyone really explaining in depth what it is we do, so I took up the mantle! I do plan to have 2-3 more videos in this series to teach how to open geodes! Next one will be on the saw!

Great video! I chuckled more than once! I use a 1” x 8” board under the jaw to lift it, depending on the size I’m cracking. Just an option.

That's wicked... first time I got to see a demo on how to use that piece of equipment... I still have to find a geode 🤭 biggest one I found has a crystal filled cavity that I'd say is about 3 pieces of paper wide🤣... still on the hunt 😃 lots of agate here though...

Bless you for this. I recently bought a 42" Wheeler Rex off of eBay and of course there were no instructions. I have about 150 thundereggs from the Baker Egg Mine south of Deming New Mexico, from 1/2" to 14" and I can't afford to fix my saws, so I am counting on the folks from Wheeler...... and you.

It'd be unfeasible to use this on a agate huh?
