The seller had the 34c for just $5!!! It has zero signs of any use!!! I couldn't believe!! It's a great staple to have in your shave den! Thanks for all the videos!! Jim

Just ordered a Merkur 34c and it was one of the best shaves I’ve ever had. It was so smooth it didn’t even feel like I was shaving! Paired it up with an Astra Blade. Couldn’t hardly feel the blade which was nice because my face is sensitive. Never going back to the Gillette Pro Glide.

I wonder how much variation there is razor to razor. I have a R89 that is my smoothest shaver and a R89 Twist which isn't even close to as nice as my regular R89 but may be a few years older with different castings. But my R89 is noticeably smoother/less drag then the 34C or 23C models I have. Maybe I just got lucky with my regular R89, or unlucky with all the others.

The 34C is an amazing tool, and very well made, and got me into other DE razors and also a Feather Artist Club SS kamisori razor. And for the record, I love wet shaving!!! Geo, do you have any tips for shaving across the neck line? Using a DE or a shavette, thank you in advance, and the channel content is amazing as always. P.S. Happy Father’s Day! Troy.

Hello. Please tell me what is better to buy Merkur 34 or Muhle R89? I have stiff bristles and very delicate skin on my neck, so I'm afraid of R41. I heard somewhere that Merkur 34 ranks between R89 and R41 in terms of aggressiveness. That's why I want to choose 34, but I really want to hear your opinion.
@Burris19D2 жыл бұрын
I am fairly new to DE shaving myself and been trying a lot of the most popular razors out. My hair is fairly coarse/grows fast and is a bit sensitive as well. The R41 was way too much blade feel for me, with some practice I could probably use it everyday but not very comfortably. My regular R89 is my favorite by far with the Astra green SP blades. I like it much better then the Merkur 34c & 23c I have but other people prefer the 34c. I notice more drag with the 34c/23c over the R89 I use every day. All of that said, I have a R89 twist I picked up second hand that may be a few years older and it doesn't shave as smooth as my regular R89 and is probably about the same as the Merkurs, plus I hate that knob at the bottom on the Twist. My regular R89 is less then a year old so I figure you would get the same version if you ordered a new one. Try it out with some Green Astra SP blades, or maybe some Gillette Silver Blues and I bet you will be happy. If you like the R89 pick up a 34c later on to try and that gives you a spare razor. Or sell the one you like the least. Good luck!
@Burris19D2 жыл бұрын
Also on cream/soaps I have tried a few so far and best bang for your buck is likely the Proraso, I have tried the Green cream version and it's pretty good stuff. For regular canned shaving cream when I'm in a hurry I have found the Skintimate brand in a pink can to be the best so far - in the womens section of the store. Start out there, but if you want to spend a little extra money I am most of the way through a tub of Barrister & Mann soap with the new Omni base and it's noticeably slicker and easier to shave with but I have went through it fairly quick and it's about $20 a puck. I have tried a couple other soaps in the $10-15 price range that weren't as good. But have a couple more higher end ones coming in to try out like from A&E soaps.

@@Burris19D Hello. I am happy to hear your opinion. I understand that I will have to experiment a lot with different razors and will not be able to buy one razor for life) Now I have a сhinese razor "Baili" and it brings me pleasure from shaving. I also bought testers of Proraso cream to choose the best smell. Thanks for your reply. Hello from Ukraine.
@Burris19D2 жыл бұрын
@@konstantinmelnitskiy6503 I'm happy to help. A lot of people like those Baili razors and I have been wanting to try one out. I have tried a couple cheaper razors so far one the Lord L6/L122, and the other was Roman Empire Shaving Caesar - both were under $10 and neither was that great for me although they had good reviews. My recommendation is to pick up a R89 eventually and see how you like it. Or perhaps the 34C/23C if you find a great deal on one. But I like my R89 much more then my Merkurs. I haven't tried out the other Proraso creams yet, just the green tube one which I really like. It's a really great deal for the money. I will eventually try the other colors/smells someday. There is better soaps out there that make it easier to shave with less irritation but so far I haven't found any as cheap as the Proraso that works as well. But I am just getting started in DE shaving myself. Stay safe over there, and I wish you and your family the best!

I continuously have the Merkur 34c where the blade is not in the middle. I think they have a production problem at Merkur
@BRENDANTHERED Жыл бұрын
I just noticed this recently, I heard Geo mention checking the reveal between the head and blade, I presume that's what he means. I'm not sure yet that it really makes a difference, but a couple times I cut myself I'm thinking the blade might have been crooked or pushed to one side. Higher tolerances on the pins could make a big difference.

@trunkerdixon2 жыл бұрын
Shavettes are bloodthirsty swine and you need an angel's touch when using them. i typically just use Derby half blades in mine - not the sharpest blades out there but plenty sharp enough in a shavette. You have to learn to skin stretch, so you are always trying to shave a flat piece of your face. That way you can avoid any bad cuts! Good luck! T
@hrmIwonder2 жыл бұрын
@@trunkerdixon For sure! I need to work on the best way to stretch my skin for my face and beard.. I think I need to reduce the angle a touch, as it felt more like I scraped my beard off than cut it off.. I'm a newbie at lathering too, I think I had it a bit too thick and some more slickness could be good.. All part of the learning experience.

I know you can because I’ve seen videos where you state you need beard growth in order to shave. Then you walk away and come back with several days growth. Or you have super beard growth growing abilities. We’re you exposed to radiation at some point in your life? I know, as an electrician you got zapped installing a barber’ pole.
