The man can hit D6 (seen in voiceplays "enemy" cover). He can sing anything. For reference, I don't think Geoff hit anything above B4 in this song- about a 2 1/2 octave difference from his note in the listed cover listed above.

Just a curiosity: "Tim Storms' Guinness World Record for the Lowest Note Produced by a Human is 0.189 Hz (G-7), set in 2012; he has a separate record for Greatest Vocal Range for Any Human, which is about 10 octaves, but does not include the 2 octave extension of the low frequency record set in 2012." To play a G-7, you need to add another piano and from that its the lowest G there. About the amplitude, 10 octaves its amazing, and 12 its almost unreal!

I love that you listen to it first without pausing and *react* to it instead of commenting on it the first time, alot of reaction channels do not do this, they can be very good reaction channels still but it's unfortunate that they don't just listen. I LOVE that you use a notepad so you can write stuff down(I assume that's what you're doing at least) and come back to it.

He doesn't usually showcase his tenor voice, it's usually just part of the harmony with an occasional spotlight. This was just amazing! The costumes were used in Misty Mountains, with some embellishments this time including the weaponry. Your face was so expressive while you were reacting, so much fun to watch! Voiceplay drops a new one on Friday, June 16.

04:00 Loved your reaction when Geoff went full-tenor on this one! Such an amazing rendition of this song! Music box! I'm sooo glad someone else mentioned that for the solo piano playing during the 2nd chorus! That piano line, from the moment I first heard the song, always makes me think of a music box - which is in such contrast to both the music of the song, and the lyrics of the song, that it kind of freaked me out a little the first time I heard it.

We get to hear a good sample of his higher range here. Although I love his bassy goodness, it was the bari-tenor and tenor that did me in on this. His acting really added a lot to this. The way Thorin looks over at his “troops” is so melancholy. Eli, VoicePlay’s rock god, arranged and synched the lights so Kathy could run them the next day. She and makeup genius Rick were the only crew that day. The credits in the description always list everyone. The video was filmed at PattyCake Productions, co-owned by Layne, VoicePlay’s beatboxer. The rest was Geoff- arrangement, storyboard, editing. Ed Boyer did the final mix, as he does for Home Free and PTX. By the way, you are not the first one to call Geoff Father. Cesar, VoicePlay’s baritenor, calls Kathy and Geoff mom and dad. ❤

There is another 4-Geoff production that you might enjoy totally unrelated to The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. It's called The Monster Mash. The song came out probably 50 years ago and was played during Halloween season on the radio. Geoff personifies the various characters and it's a fun one. You might want to wait until Halloween season - Voiceplay has several Halloween themed covers as well.

The fabulous lighting in this was done by Eli Jacobson, VoicePlay's tenor, BTW, and I agree it was spot on (heh. Pun unintended). Geoff also sings an extended higher range section in his cover of "White Christmas," which he did this last December. I love how he, and all of VoicePlay, continually work on their craft, and stretch their boundaries, so that each new song is their best one yet.

His tenor range takes a few people by surprise. These are dwarves, reprised from Geoff's Over The Misty Mountains Cold, And all available to do this! :) Costumes and makeup much the same but this tine he gives them all a voice. This one is from The Desolation of Smaug vut wasn't heard during the film but plays over the credits. Another way to hear a lot of Geoff's range is his cover of Blackbird. A lot of people new to Geoff do wonder if he has three or four brothers, he does it so well. His Shenandoah is especially good in that respect. He's so lovely and always appreciative of his supporters and fans.

I read in a comment that Geoff actually considers himself a baritone that can go really low.. actually it might have been he's more comfortable in the baritone range. I actually think it was the former not the latter. . In any event he is so talented and so amazing. I subscribed to your channel after one of your reactions I watch at least one of your everyday. I really like how you break down the beatboxers. I would like to put in a request for Pentatonix prayers for this world. I saw them last year in concert and they do sound the same. There's a bit of a reason why the 'Thorin' Geoff reminded you of "Valhalla Calling" - the same coat is used there, although it is Layne that wears it in 'Valhalla' & in "My Mother Told Me". Geoff DOES wear it as Thorin in 'Misty Mountains'. And I'm pretty sure Eli wears it in "Hall of the Mountain King" They do dress it differently, so it isn't obvious. I can only recognize it by the pattern on the one sleeve. And I love that you now have named Thorin Geoff as 'Father', I'm guessing that at least one of the other dwarves portrayed is Filli (braided mustache) who would be a nephew. I've been thinking of Thorin Geoff as 'King' in my mind. Very nice reaction. It is so interesting to get a more informative reaction. I always love your comments about the production process and other bits of your knowledge. Now I'm off to hopefully watch "Self Reflection". That snippet at the beginning of this looked really good. I'm guessing the full video is also here.

One of the best things about Geoff is the hard work he’s put in to sounding this smooth and rich throughout his entire range. So often people get kind of strained at the high or low end. Maybe he does, too and just doesn’t include those highest and lowest notes in his solos, but dang, he never sounds like he’s reaching, and he always sounds super silky. Those slides are getting super smooth as well-in some earlier songs you can hear the break between registers more clearly. The man doesn’t just have this amazing talent but he doesn’t just rest on that-he works at making it as good as it can get. Your reactions are SO fun!!

Aside from his range and beautiful singing he does the arrangement and editing on his own with assistance from his wife and production manager, Kathy, who is also production manager for Voice Play. This song brings tears to my every time as the images of what the dragon is doing as they sing their death dirge. The music always sounded like wings pumping in the back ground the deep deadly sound of the wings up and hitting low. The deadly shadow think of not being able to do anything but watch your friends and family be burned alive, eaten or drop from the sky by that deadly greedy Smaug dragon. Greed begets Greed in this deadly moment. All you can do is accept the inevitable of a horrific death. Smaug came because of the massive amount of gold and gems the dwarves had collected never happy with what they had. In the end Smaugs Greed was his demise by the greed of all races. Fabulous version he holds the tremble of fear in his voice along with acceptance of it all. I think it is now my absolute favorite.
