Belting high probably not a strength, but he can sing beautifully in that register, i.e. High and Dry and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. That Jurassic Park rumble was definitely artificial, he sent an instrumental track to his patrons and it was part of it. And you are right, he is amazing!! Great reaction!

Surely the light represents the street light, above him. Geoff still maintains that he is a baritone with a bass range. :) Geoff knows exactly what he wants and is able to achieve it, one way or another. With a little help from this friends: Eli on lights, etc. Check out the credits.

If I remember correctly the "clapping" sound was made by clapping 2 pieces of wood together . I could be wrong too, I thought I heard him talk about it in the BTS. GREAT REACTION ❤😊

I always love Eli's lighting, it was great to hear your detailed breakdown of what he was doing here. There was talk about his seeking out the right upright piano for the old fashioned sound of the pedals and keys for Shenandoah.....

You're not alone, I agree he's the best at every artistic side of what he does! The background sound I believe he added, it's not his voice, just to make everything deeper and darker. I really love this version!

That one section is going to be one of my favorites of his, alongside the sections in 16 tons and When She's Gone... He has once again taken a well known song and taken it a totally different direction.

Masterful take conveying the emotions of his interpretation of the song. Everything...arrangement, lighting, and camerawork... dovetails in producing the profound sorrow that no one listened to the warnings.

Great analysis! You always point out things I've missed. As a viewer, I hope you can find time for reactions. As a mom, I want you to focus on school, young man. 🙃 This is the same piano Geoff used in Till Then. They ordered one, wanting a lightweight portable piano (guessing he never again wanted to be stuck with an out of tune piano like he had for Shenendoah) but it arrived broken. Crunched for time, they found this one on Craiglist, and he and Kathy had to schlep it down two flights of stairs. Layne was on camera, as he did for Way Down and Ain't No Sunshine (Tony also helped with ANS). Eli did the lighting, as he did for Way Down. All the guys in VoicePlay are really stepping up their game on the production end as well as their performances.

You are always enlightening about production effects. Something unique to hear in these music reactions. Thanks! Learned quite a bit. I also found the layers of his voice in the standing part so effective for the contrast when they shut off abruptly as he returned to the piano. A lot of wonderful moments in this rendition.

First listening to your reaction to this and I am impressed. You are the ONLY one, out of a dozen or more, who has stated what, to me, is obvious. Yes. Darkness has a "sound". Silence isn't really. Ask anyone who has been in the depths of the Taj Mahal or the Black Taj the rajah built for his queen. There is a very interesting tour you can participate in, or used to be. See if you can find any information about it if you haven't heard of it. But, besides that, Daniel, I have visual acuity issues and am considered legally blind in one eye, possibly both now. The night is darker for me than most, but it is not silent. It....vibrates....or, whispers....sometimes it thrums or vibrates in my bones like subharmonics do. Love, love, love that you said that😊

Some tidbits for you: Yes, Eli's lighting plot for this video is genius - very subtle underscoring of what's happening yet bombastic when it needs to be. It's not a one-take, there are more takes than you might think. There are several low notes in the background vocals, as well as several high notes. That's the large yellow fan at PattyCake Productions studio that is blowing Geoff's hair here as well in many other videos. It was originally planned that, from "And the people bowed and prayed" through the end of that sequence , would be a 360° wrapping shot, but they decided against it.

I always love your reaction and commentary. You bring knowledge not only with the music but also in the staging, and odd noises that I would have missed. I've loved this song for more than 50 years, always thought that Simon and Garfunkel were unrecognized poets. (I would have made them poet laureates.) Geoff took their song and doubled down on it. I think it is his best solo and just love it. He pulled out all the stops on this with both Layne and Eli. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Daniel.

You may have already seen it by now (I'm always late, LOL!), but Geoff put out a YT Short of himself singing just the first verse and accompanying himself on the piano. That one is definitely a one-take. You mentioned singers who do multi-track recordings. One of the most well-known is probably Peter Hollens, who records himself tens-of-times (at least one song over 100 tracks) on most of his songs. I didn't see any reactions on him on your channel, so he may be someone you want to take a look at.

I love this version, one thing, he don't use vocal fry, he used his natural chest voice, he's a basso profundo, the lowest note he can hit un this song is a Eb1, but with subharmonic note

I love your tech insights. I learn so much from you. I do hope you can pop in now and again through your schooling, but I’ll be here whenever you get back. 😊 One side note: your monitor in the background was distracting the heck out of me. I’m not sure if it was reflecting something or if it was the monitor itself, but it’d get real bright the. fade, then reddish then fade… I know I’m ADD but it was enough that I had to close my eyes to focus on hearing you.

As much as you know about how to film and produce I think you would love watching Falling in Reverse “Im not a Vampire Revamped” not only is the singer imo the best of this generation but he has so many other talents and the music videos he produces are phenomenal. The singer is Ronnie radke who leads a rock band but with 2 of his songs he created basically a rock opera or rock musical. His voice and the video together are stunning

This was such an informative reaction. I am sort of scared to listen to this with good headphones, since hearing it through my $10 Target headphones makes my chest vibrate. This is a very good cover of this classic, which came out when I was in college. I still think my favorite cover is the Peter Hollens/Tim Foust one. Definitely NOT Disturbed or PTX, which I find overdone. The Hound and the Fox also do a nice one with Adam Chance.
