Geoff Downes & Chris Braide from The Downes Braide Association talk to Phil Aston about the new DBA album Celestial Songs.
I talk to Geoff and Chris about the new album looking in depth at each track in turn and also talk about the creative process and the album themes.
Downes Braide Association, a collaboration between Geoff Downes and Chris Braide, has delivered four acclaimed studio albums: Pictures Of You (2012), Suburban Ghosts (2015), Skyscraper Souls (2017), Halcyon Hymns (2021), and the live album Live In England (2019). This duo seamlessly blends their vast musical experiences to craft a unique progressive rock sound.
Geoff Downes skyrocketed to fame with the global hit "Video Killed The Radio Star" in 1979 as part of The Buggles. He briefly joined YES and later co-founded the supergroup Asia, producing hits like "Heat Of The Moment". Downes rejoined YES in 2011, continuing his legacy alongside Steve Howe.
Chris Braide, a British singer-songwriter-pianist, has made waves in the music industry from California to the UK. With credits including work with Sia, Lana Del Rey, and Beyonce, Braide's talent is undeniable. An Ivor Novello award-winner and Grammy-nominated artist, he recently clinched a BMI Pop Award for co-writing Sia’s hit "Unstoppable".

DBA is an excellent band . I'm listening to their tunes on KZbin. It's excellent stuff with great hooks. The cover artwork of their coming album is great too. Roger Dean did an awesome job. Geoff Downes is a great musician and songwriter. Holy moly, Heat Of The Moment, what a stunning tune. Timeless❤

Great interview Phil thank you 👍 interesting to hear about the thoughts of the Xfactor and how it affected some contestants on the show, But of all the pop acts on that show and some were hugely successful for a few years after there is one artist called Lucy Spraggan who is still making music now 11 years down the road, she is a very gifted singer songwriter and has just released her 7th album called ‘’Balance” and Phil it’s definitely worth checking out for the superb insightful and emotive lyrics and the melodic song structure that fit like hand in glove 👍😀👍

Great interview. I have also been listening non-stop to the album. Just found DBA. Digging in to the rest of the catalog. Keep on Moving is so far my favorite track. The whole album just flows. Agree regarding the positive feeling of this music. Thank you for the great interview.

Brilliant band, my box set turned up today. I'm astonished with each release how they regularly come up with such excellent songs and maintain their quality over their catalogue. The box set is a must have, the signed print is excellent. Gorgeous gatefold album with dark red vinyl, however no poly sleeves so the vinyl sticks to the sleeve, easily sorted by blowing into the sleeve!. I also noticed the excellent CD digipak omits Dave Bainbridge's name from beneath his picture in the credits whereas it's included on the vinyl version

Credit to you Phil for arranging and doing this interview. This makes KZbin an excellent source of music discovery (with SOT and Classic Album Review style channels) and Andy Edwards and you actually interviewing musicians. I also discovered DBA only 2 years ago.

Fantastic Roger Dean artwork again! As Chris so fairly asks ”how can he top this”? And he keeps doing it! For the covers alone, get the vinyl. Not only the new one but Halcyon Days, Live in England and Skyscraper Souls. They appear to be watercolours and luscious ones at that. Thanks Phil for the effort you put into these interviews.
