My theory about GTD is that this is the actual canon continuation of Jake and Amir, with the main focus actually being on Jake attempting to rehabilitate his anger issues and Amir attempting to reintegrate, Geoff takes over Amir's role as the dumbass in order to show the progress that Amir has made, the new series of J&A is a non-canon spin off of sorts.
