Another cool thing about Finland that a Finnish friend of mine told me: when a baby is born in Finland, the parents receive a box with things for their newborn like dipers, clothes, bootys, blankets and a light mattress - and the box itself can be used as a bed for the baby.

Saunas are absolutely necessary anywhere for a Finn. Sadly they don't make suitcase versions. I miss it for sure - cursed Covid - have been in Finland last time the summer before since the pandemic started, cause it just isn't responsible to travel while this shit is going on. For me or anyone else. I miss it too - can't even get really clean in any other way. Shower is perhaps best option, bath no-where near - but yea - sauna plus a shower, that is whole another a feeling. Yea, yea I am bias, but there is truth in that. And I tell you - where the weather is such that it feels like you are in poorly heated sauna which is way too hot for human life to exist in at all times, night and day, and you can't even step outside to cool down - that is ridiculous. But I'd still want a sauna, just to be able to feel less hot without it. I live in such an area and to me this weather in summer in this area of world is frankly torture. Bloody hell, you feel like you are wearing a fur coat inside a hot sauna - while wearing not a thing - and there is no cursed escape except literally sitting on ice bottles and hugging them while sleeping. You see, that heat won't come out from the body when the weather is like that. At least my body will literally store and store more. Drinking water wont take it down. Staying inside wont take it down. Leaving all windows open for the night helps a tiny bit - but the day arrives too soon. I can barely stay awake in that short of a weather due the heat. To handle it I use pure sisu, set frozen bottles, take showers and sit in front of the fan never removing myself from that for more than few minutes - all at the same time too. At that time jumping into roll in some snow starts to sound terribly inviting. But alas, the things we do for love. And yes, if we could travel - we would go to Finland for the summer. The winters here are decent though - like nice long fall time when weather is not cold even when it gets cold. Only issue then being the poor quality of homes built with no sense of insulation leading to outside weather temperatures getting inside far too easy, the same as summer, but making you wear additional layers of clothing, the way you never do in Finland unless you are heading out to ice fish in middle of winter and have to wear a lot of stuff against cold. Who the hell has to wear sweaters inside anyhow? Seriously I have never been as cold in the house either, not in Finland. Idk where that silly idea comes from that you just have got to endure weather. And I like the weather ok outside, with the jacket on and so on, but inside just is not supposed to demand for extra garments, you are supposed to be able to stroll around in leggings and t-shirt comfortably the year around. Alas... yea a bit of a rant just cause I am homesick. For sauna and more manageable conditions to deal with for inside-temperatures.

You can only find flat land next to lake etc. Otherwise land is vertical. Those hills are like 200-300+ meters highr than lake around them but they are still reminds of the oldest mountain range in world. You don't need to be proficient most finish people are able to communicate in English but finnish people are more likely to welcome you if you make an effort to learn the language. Just knowing how to say hello and thank you will get you far in the beginning. Also don't be afraid of messing up the correct inflects as finish people are really good at understanding contexts and we will understand what you mean even if you just somehow string the words together.
