As a Puerto Rican I can say that Cuba and Puerto Rico are definitely long lost twin brothers who love each other wholeheartedly but were separated in adolescence and haven't seen each other or talked to each other for decades and have now grown old, still longing to spend time together again. It's quite sad actually. I hope that some day soon there will finally be a long awaited family reunion.

The Cuban flag was originally created by Narciso López, a New York-based Cuban exile, and used the suggestions from the Cuban poet, Miguel Teurbo Tolón. The Cuban flag was first adopted on the 20th of May, 1902. The Cuban flag consists of 5 equal horizontal bands - which contains 3 blue bands which alternate with 2 white bands, and a red equilateral triangle at the hoist side with a white 5-pointed star. The blue bands represents the three military districts of Cuba; Central, Occidental, and Oriental. The white bands represents the purity of the patriotic cause. And the red stands for... 'Say it with me' *cue epic rock music* "The blood shed in the struggle for independence." The triangle stands for equality, strength and constancy. (For future reference, an equilateral triangle usually represents equality.) And finally, the white star is called "La Estrella Solitaria" (The Lone Star) and it represents independence and freedom.

I'm kinda sad... in the diplomacy section you forgot to mention Cuba's relationship with Canada, which began under Pierre Trudeau. The Castro/Trudeau relationship was kinda special, First of all because Canada allowed business between Canadian industrial and the Communist regime, which boosted the Cuban Tourism market. Castro even went to Trudeau's funeral at Montreal's Notre Dame Cathedral in 2000. That's kinda major when it comes to Cuban ''friends'' in the world. Without Canada, there is no Cuba tourism industry.

I love Cuba! Have been traveling there (following all the rules of the US, just in case that Big Brother is reading) for years. I had visited during the "special period" after the fall of the Soviet Bloc and more recently as the USA announced and started new diplomatic relations with the country. (And will be going again in August.) It is a fascinating country and the people are great. As you point out in the video, Cuba and Puerto Rico have had a long history of friendship: last two Spaniard colonies, both invaded by the USA at the same time, similar cuisine, similar accents... the same flag with the colors inverted but with the exact same meaning ("blood of the martyrs"!!!) Indeed, there is a poem by Puerto Rican poet Lola Rodríguez de Tió that says: "Cuba and Puerto Rico are. of the same bird, its two wings; they receive bullets or flowers, on the same heart." (It sounds much better in Spanish...) Anyway, loved how accurate and respectful the video about such an incredibly difficult country was. (Still, I will be missing the flag section...)

One thing important is that Cuba had a program where they took disadvantage kids from Communist countries and educated them. Giving them a short at life. Most of the kids they took from Ethiopia are now living in America and Canada working in high paying jobs. Though the path they chose didn't do well for Cuba, at least they have done some good for others. They have also fought along side Ethiopia against Somalia and there is a park dedicated for the fallen soldiers.

What happened to Mexican-Cuban relations? Without Mexico we all know Fidel Castro never comes to power plus Mexico was the only nation to vote against the expulsion of Cuba from the Organization of the Americas and against the Embargo.

Fidel Castro is the worst thing that's ever happened to Cuba
@nromk8 жыл бұрын
Lucas Rengifo Regardless of that you have to know that Mexico arrested both Fidel and his brother and Che, notices that Spain and the US are having too much influence with other nations in the Americas that Mexico was not ok with, sets Fidel, Raul, and Che free from jail by making it look like a jail brake, attempts to set up a communist government in hopes of countering the Fascist governments of Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Peru, gain influence in nations like Guatemala, Salvador, Nicaragua, and so on, convinces the US to support the Castros, and fails miserably at attaining an ally, influencing the region, and keeping the US and Spain out of the Americas.

I love you guys! This is by far, one of the most interesting and creative channels on KZbin, in my humble opinion. You deserve millions and millions of subscribers, mates. Barby, your way of giving the information is so smooth and well-thought that even a small child would understand you, which is actually a brilliant way of doing these things. Keep up with the great work! Cheers, guys ! P.S. Greetings from Bulgaria, loved how you spoke about our relationship with Macedonia! :D

I think the flag fridays should be before the video of the country itself (i.e. maybe do a Cuban and Cyprus flag this friday, and afterwards do the flag of the country after Cyprus, then said country's video, then the next country's flag, etc). I think the flag should still somehow come first.

Cuba 🇨🇺 was taken in the Spanish American war in 1898 by the USA 🇺🇸 along with Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, Guam 🇬🇺, and the Philippines 🇵🇭. From 1898-1902 US territory, from 1902-1959 under US neocolonialism/Protectorate. US congress passed the Platt Amendment in 1902. Where Cuba didn’t get full independence. All Cuban exports, international affairs, militarily, international relations all had to be approved by the US Congress and Washington. Cuba really never got full independence from the USA 🇺🇸 . Then Fidel formed his Revolution to kick Americans out of Cuba. Cuba since 1898 was already more American than it was Spanish. It was practically a US territory just like Puerto Rico. Cuba 🇨🇺 and Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 were the 2 Caribbean Islands governed by the US since 1898. Until Castro came to power. He didn’t explain any of this. The Treaty of Paris, the Platt Amendment, and all that stuff.
