One of the practical, everyday applications of having good geographical knowledge is being able to put in context random bits of news, understanding them better. Given that, this kind of video is a perfect fit for this channel. Even if a situation's relevance seems temporary, the video stays as a memory of the context in that moment, which often gets lost in historical research. I really like how you take the time to understand what's happening in other countries, and getting to the awesome parts that every country has in their culture. Anyway, I really like this video. You should do updates if things change in countries just to acknowledge that.

The CIA and MI6 have certainly worked overtime for this. Since Assad is gone, there will be no secular government for religious and ethnic minorities to survive.

You are so cool for getting ‘facts on the ground’ from your Syrian subscribers. It’s amazing how this comparatively casual summary (as opposed to say a bbc or cnn news report) comes across with authenticity. What a valuable and precious relationship you have w your subscribers, kudos to you for elevating their voices and honouring their lived experience.

The new Syria is Libya version 2.0. Did democracy come to Libya after 2011? Of course not. It only got worse, complete anarchy. This is how America brings democracy to the Middle East😅

@@DLR1997 Except it completely is as US sanctions crippled Syria and prevented any economical recovery. Add to it US supported rebels had control over most of Syria oilfields and when government tried to take them back, they got bombed by Americans.

5:25 Just a minor correction. It was not Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi who directed the creation of Al Nusra, it was probably Bin Laden or Al Zawahiri. Because Al Baghdadi is the ISIL guy not the AlQaeda guy Any country in the situation Syria was in will have radicalized people. Everyone gets radicalized when Sednaya is a thing. But once the dust has settled and the nation becomes free, most people will seek a democracy again. As a Syrian, I hope for some kind of Federal and democratic system just to avoid seperatism in the kurdish areas
@HUNDmiau4 күн бұрын
Isnt that what the SDF wants? IIRC, their democratic confederalism is basically a democratic system with a strong federalist streak. Though granted, also very much socialist.

I dislike Assad more than anyone, but celebrating his demise is VERY premature. The idea that Syria will suddenly turn into Switzerland now that he’s gone is laughable, this might bring even worse conflict than before.
@LegionMakz4 күн бұрын
I only dislike Assad because he didn't support the Axis of resistance enough
@Tomatnaufmaugn4 күн бұрын
Well Assad not being in power any more will probably not hurt Syria, however the current situation could very much spiral out of control depending on how the different factions get on with each other.
@bababababababa61244 күн бұрын
@@TomatnaufmaugnI agree with you, it’s a very good thing that he’s finally gone, but the fact that there are so many different heavily armed groups and factions that all would like power is very concerning. I wish the best for Syria, but we need to be realistic. Things will only get worse in the short term.

@@MbisonBalrog He ran a totalitarian dictatorship that kidnapped, tortured and executed an untold number of people and wanted to remain in power so bad that he fought a nearly 14 year-long civil war that killed 600K of his own people and sent millions across the globe as refugees.
