The Wanapitei crater formed 37 Ma ago, whereas the Sudbury Basin 1850 Ma ago. The impactors that produced the two craters are completely unrelated.

Have any of the researchers working on the suspected impact structure at Sudbury been able to compare it with the what has been observed in the Vredefort Structure in South Africa? Vredefort is widely accepted as an impact structure.
