Back in the winter of 2020 when we were all sitting around at home, I attended every session of your Washington State Geology 101, online. It blew my mind. I got the opportunity, and have been wondering around the state for almost a week now. Incredible! Thank you so much for opening this door for me! Keep up the good work. Best wishes to you and yours, especially in this challenging time for Liz. Just an old farm boy from Indiana.

A pleasant and unexpected surprise! I hope Liz is very much on the mend from whatever it was, your stress level has appropriately diminished, and I'm happy to see you out in the field with Hannah, Chris, and groups of people carrying hammers. "How did I not know about that?" Because it's not possible to know everything, Nick, even if it IS in your own geologic back yard. Lighten up, and welcome back.

Hi Nick. I just wanted to say thank you for editing and uploading this video. I know it’s hard being a support for a loved one in need, like what’s going on with you and Liz, and sometimes in response to stress we bury ourselves in work. I don’t think that’s what is happening here. I think you took a few moments for yourself and I’m guessing putting this up was just as much about providing something you need, on top of taking g care of your viewers. You are such a beautiful person. Mostly what I wanted to say here is something I have to remind myself of daily. It’s a bit of a mantra. On an airplane, flight attendants remind us in case of emergency and depressurization, to put our own masks on before we put on the mask of a loved one. It’s a lovely metaphor for life. If we aren’t taking care of ourselves, how can we be there for the ones we love. Take care Nick. We love you, and miss you, but we’re not going anywhere. Take care of yourself, and Liz. We’ll see you soon

Nick, my family spent wonderful camping trips abt mile 7 up Bumping River Rd. This was ‘58-60ish. There was a store there at 410 and BRR. Also several cabins to rent there as well. These were all Native American themed buildings. We went to sleep every night with the river in our ears. I still have such memories of those days. Thanks for reminding me.

Teaching Volcanic Geology seems to be a tuff job. Last time I was there, (Bumping River Road) was 68 years ago, and I had no idea what I was looking at. I need to go back. Only thing I knew about volcanoes then was Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and Yellowstone. I grew up in Kennewick, and didn't find out what the Columbia Basalt was until I was in High School in the sixties. Thanks for all you do.

Lovely to see you! What an interesting session. Lots of things to consider. I especially enjoyed the fact you put this out. I think of Liz and all of you everyday. Jeff Tepper striking again was WOW. Then the visit with Chris Mattison and that information: pumice-flattened/unflattened (I have a couple of pieces of Mt. St. Helens pumice collected on a Columbia River beach near Astoria, 1981). Hannah S. and her students! ❤❤❤❤ to you!!
