Remember to get a good internal frame backpack!

You can fake up a cheap internal 'frame for a backpack by using a couple of inexpensive, flexible cutting boards! Buy a 2 pack and they come sealed in a bag ready to use, or duct tape the edges of the boards together- the size of 1 board, but double thickness. AKA one on top of the other and tape the edges.

Any good backpack suggestions?

If I might suggest. Rather than replace the chisel once the top starts to mushroom, just go out and get a bastard mill file and file off the mushroomed steel around the end. It'll give your tools 4 times the longevity, and take less than 5 minutes of work. Thx for the video!

That makes a load of sense to me, Travis. Buying new tools can get to be expensive. And while you're at it, you should probably reshape and resharpen the chisel end, too.

Thanks for the tips Philippe. I've had the geo pick for 5 yrs now and is a super tool. I never knew Estwing made chisels though, have to pick a few up, they look well made. Thanks, Andrew.

They're great. You get the advantage of a hand guard and a smaller, more portable chisel compared to the typical hardware store chisels with rubber hand guard.

Hi Timothy, Deakin Equipment in Vancouver carries it. They ship too. The only other place I've seen the geo pick in Canada is at PDAC and Round-Up.

Great info, I think I would add if you can afford a Life Straw they are reliable and in an emergency you can drink out of even the dirtiest water sources. Also some water proof matches and dry tinder , some way to easily start a fire is always helpful. Keep up the great videos!

what model is the gps and flashlight? thanks
@GeologyofGemsMinerals
@GeologyofGemsMinerals 6 жыл бұрын
I recommend the latest Garmin gpsmap 64s which you can load up with topographic maps. Any quality waterproof LED flashlight will do. I like to have mine work with 2 AA batteries. I don't have to charge anything, AAs are cheaper than AAA, and it has a good mix of power and portability. This one is anodized aluminium.

You don't need to replace a chisel with a mushroomed end, just dress it on a bench grinder.

Estwing makes fiberglass handles as well for the 2-4 pound hammers
@saaamember97
@saaamember97 5 жыл бұрын
Never use hammers with fiberglass handles! Fiberglass easily shatters and can send shards flying through the air. The USAF replaced all their fiberglass handles way back in the 80's because of this.
