This was a blast!! Excellent job on the course!! I was nervous I'd be able to keep up - I don't remember Algebra, Trig, etc. very well but there was barely any math and I finally understand a bit of Geometry Nodes. Thanks Erin!! And the price?? Can't be beat!!! I was literally sad when the course finished. ??? Quick question - Is there an easy way to keep the intermingling nodes connected but separate the different layers? Like the grass in one render layer, the mushrooms in another but still allow the proximity of the grass to be affected?
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I'm glad you were able to get through the course! Best way would be to split up the node tree I think so you have separate objects like grass, mushrooms, trees etc and when you need an interaction you can use an Object Info node set to Relative to reference another object. That'll let you control visibility separately for your layers
@elizabethyorick87633 жыл бұрын
@@Erindale THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! It worked!! I had to use an Object Info node set to Relative and instead of using the Location use the Geometry output to the Target. Woohoo!! Just enrolled with all my heart. Will it be updated with the new "fields"?
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
Ultimately yes! But not immediately. I want to give fields a chance to settle so I know I won't have to do another one later. I will release videos on this channel about shifting from attributes to fields so in the short-term, those references will be released here.
@CHEEZEyCHEEZE3 жыл бұрын
I love the Channel it has helped me so much with my 3D modeling. I wanted to ask you if you could do some tutorial on creating a human and animal(4 legs 1 tail) using geometry nodes. In my mind I can see how it would be easy to do in geoNodes in the sense that it is 2 arms 2 legs 5 fingers split by a centerline. Just the outline would be nice so I can go between something short and tall, fat and skinny etc. Not a full smooth body, just the shape. Again thank you so much for all the content it has been so helpful so far.

Geometry Nodes is probably not the best thing to be using for that! You're definitely going to be faster with sculping and armaturs to rig :)

It's nice but with the major change coming to geometry node wouldn't this course become obsolete ?
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so really. Blender 2.93 is an LTS release so for studios and people who don't want to jump around, it'll be directly relevant for 2 years. And for everyone following the updates, the logic on the course is still followable. The only change will be that things are connected more like shaders with noodles instead of being so heavy on attributes so it'll be a fairly simple transition for students figuring out the change.

I enrolled in your course and it's really interesting so far. I'm trying to figure out how to combine the deformation part with a attribute proximity but I can't make it work. Is it possible to have the texture deformation strength and influence based on the location of a empty for example? There's some tutorials with proximity but it usually just influences scale or texture in general. Thank you in advance.
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
A nice way to do it is to use your attribute proximity between your icosphere and the empty (as the target) to output a distance attribute. Then use an Attribute Map Range node to control the effect similar to how we do with the proximity to the mushrooms (from min / max is the distance and use 1 and 0 as the outputs so it deforms near the empty and 0 deformation further away). Then you can simply multiply the attribute you'll add to the position by your distance attribute. In the fireflies case that's the attribute "fireflies" just before it goes into the Vector Math node with the position attribute.

Hey Erindale! I've just bought the course, and I'm really looking forward to get through it. I just realized though, that it seems the geo node system will get kind of reworked for 3.0 if I'm not wrong. I'm curious, do you plan to update it when the rework comes? :)
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
I will be but not for a little while. I can't be sure things won't go through more changes during the teething period. This current course is going to remain relevant for 2.93 LTS though. I will probably wait until next summer before doing another Geo Nodes course just to make sure I'm not needing to do another another course :)

Would love to get this course! Is it still recommended to do with blender 3.0+?

It's mainly relevent for 2.93 as the workflow changed quite significantly going into 3.0
@dpkgray3 жыл бұрын
How well does this apply to the fields update? Will you be updating the course?
@Erindale3 жыл бұрын
There will be but not until probably next summer. I want to be confident in the development direction and have more tools available to be able to create a bit of a more advanced / longer course. As for the logic, it carries over to fields but there are different connections. All the talk about attributes would be a bit superfluous but in a good way. Fields is a definite upgrade.

@@Erindale Thank you, I will be looking for it when it comes out. Also, what are yours plans for the Erindale Toolkit? Will there be an update for that also?

@@dpkgray Yes absolutely!
