Great video. Thanks for sharing this information. Just a quick note: 'tapajos' comes from the native Brazilian name for the river Tapajós, so it is not pronounced as in 'Navajo', but like the French pronounce their 'j', as in 'bonjour'.

Awesome video as always! I just put a group of 5 geos in my 120 gallon Uaru and heros tank. Really love watching them their colours are amazing! I’ll post a video soon and send you a link this tank has been a work in progress over the last year but finally have it fully stocked and everything running very smooth. I think you’ll also really enjoy the huge piece of driftwood I cured and finally after 8 months got it water logged enough to sink it’s about 4 feet long with a big kinda cave hole in the center!

So very cool! Thanks for sharing it with us. Some questions - if you didn't have the bottom feeders in there, could you have left the eggs with the parents? Would the parents eat either the eggs or the young at some point? Or would they be perfectly safe with parents taking care of them? Also do they HAVE to have live food or would they be fine with super-fine fry food, for instance like what Aquarium Co-Op has in the 'squirt' bottle? (not that I plan on breeding - I have ONE tank because it is literally all I have room for in my postage-stamp sized rental lol And that is a Multi tank♥ I'm just a curious sort.)
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 5 жыл бұрын
If it was just the pair they would be good parents, but with the other geos and the plecos, the eggs had to come out. It's possible they would feed on the fry flake if it sank quickly, but I have such good results with LBB I wouldn't want to chance it!

What a great looking fish. I think if I was going back with cichlids for my own enjoyment these would be the ones I would go with. By chance do you have a spotlight video on these guys? I don't remember if you use them or not but I heard that NatGeo is discontinuing their lights and have them on clearance at the big box stores. Some places are up to 75% off so I have heard. Thought you may want to know.

Does it stress the parents to remove the eggs or are they "meh, what eggs?" once the eggs are out of range? Instead of an egg tumbler could you place the whole rock in a breeder and put a low flow powerhead or wavemaker pointed at them? Thanks! :)
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 4 жыл бұрын
They look a little disoriented at first, but seem to quickly forget. Yes, you could put the rock in another tank with a bubbler or low flow power head.

They are gorgeous! How big are they and are they full grown? I'm curious because I've had the G. surinamensis complex before, and they were all giants of 8"+. Looking for a smaller specimen with the coloration. I've read these get to 4"... but yours look bigger. The little ones are so cute!! (I'm a sucker for eartheaters...)

Oh fair enough. A question for you.... I have a 5ft, 400 L tank. What are your thoughts on having the below for a long term tank. 2 x tapojos, 2 x firemouth 2 elliotti and maybe a small pleco or two. Would that be suitable?

So, funny story - after I moved the fry out of the 7.5 gallon I moved them into a black plastic grow-out tote. Well, that's great for growing them out, but doesn't lend well to filming.
