In this presentation Laz Katona of the Geological Survey of South Australia, shows the gravity and magnetic signatures of a number of South Australian Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) deposits. He then show how the use of GIS and the application of spatial statistics (spatial clustering analysis) can be used as a means of identifying known and potential IOCG deposits.
The spatial clustering analysis delineates three distinct geophysical domains that can be explained by differences in cover thickness, crustal exposure and style of mineralisation, providing important targeting information for mineral explorers.
This presentation was part of a webinar which was an introduction to several of the chapters in the upcoming Special Paper 52 of the Geological Association of Canada titled Metasomatic mineral systems with IOCG and critical metal deposits: From geological and chemical footprints to exploration tools.
