Geophysics - Seismic: Attributes (Part 1) - a brief discussion.

Seismic attributes are used to characterize different aspects of the seismic response. They can be calculated for 2D vertical sections,3D seismic volumes and in 4D time lapse responses. They can highlight seismic frequency, amplitude and phase, map attenuation , locate hydrocarbon anomalies, map subtle stratigraphic and structural details. Attributes can be calculated in prestack as well as post stack volumes. We illustrate a couple complex trace attributes using Petrel.
