I've seen a number of guys who are endorsed by a different amp company than the guitars they use, and you'll see them demoing the amp with a guitar by that brand. I've heard/read that this is part of what led to the falling out between Fender and John Mayer: he wanted to use different amps on stage and Fender wanted him to basically cover them up lol.

Got to see GB in 1975/76 with Minnie Ripperton. What a show! This was at the SIUE campus in Illinois-an outdoor gig. Great seats ‘under the tent’. Before the show we walked behind the stage where there was a small bridge about four or five feet off the ground that connected the back stage area with the dressing rooms. The guard on duty said GB was already on stage … but we knew better. When we saw the dressing room doors open we jumped up on the bridge and got in line to shake hands with ‘da man’. Big smile. Big hands. Big heart. Big impression on a 15 year-old. GB and Ms. Ripperton played individually … and then joined forces at the end of the show. I practiced Breezin’ the next few days til my fingers bled.

Meticulously engineered, the GB Hot Rod Deluxe is a 40-watt 1x12 combo outfitted in a gray-black vinyl covering, silver-strand grille cloth and a GB logo badge. It has the full bottom-end characteristic of 6L6 tubes and a versatile all-tube preamp including a 12AT7 up front for cleaner tone, especially with humbucking pickups.

The GB Hot Rod Deluxe 112 Enclosure mates perfectly with the GB Hot Rod Deluxe combo, and adds fullness bass response and wider stage coverage. It is a closed-back cab neatly dressed in gray-black vinyl covering and silver-strand grille cloth with a GB logo badge, and is equipped with a Jensen C12K 100-watt speaker and solid pine construction for lighter weight.

Both Deluxe lll amps are great! The difference with the GB Deluxe lll has a 12AT7 preamp tube in place of a 12AX7 which produces a more clean tone at louder volume and a 100 watt Jensen C12K speaker for more clean sound at louder volume instead of the Celestion in the regular Deluxe lll. Lastly the wood on the GB lll is made of solid pine which makes the amp resonate more and it's much lighter in weight! This allows George to play the amp loud and clean with his band. :)

It really works to put a low-output tube in V1 on the hotrod and blues DLX. I put one 12ay7 in V1 and a 12at7 in V3 of my '93 USA Blues DLX and I eventually sold it to a guy who paid extra because it was the best sounding Blues DLX he ever heard. It's a Stevie Ray Vaughn trick that really works. 12ay7's are very sensitive and quiet with lots of headroom and little output. 12at7's tend to have a flat character, low output and can handle the beating a phase inverter gets, and giving the amp the blooming tones of being cranked, without blowing eardrums.

A 100-watt Jensen C12K speaker handles the immediacy of Benson’s singing soloing style with clarity and range, and the solid-pine cabinet increases tonal resonance while reducing weight.

That's odd that a jazz guitarist cat like George Benson would go for a Fender tube amp. A lot tend to prefer solid state amps for their even response and clean headroom. All the artists Fender taps for signature instruments, amps and what have you are deserving in their own right but George Benson is in a league of his own. Great job!

The guitar most definitely is an Ibanez GB 10 Signature. I have one myself (but I prefer my Gibsons) I am convinced that GB can make any guitar sound like him. Hank Marvin would make an LP sound like his Strat if he tried. These guys have it in their fingers. Unfortunately we shall have to wait another 4 months before this amp hits Denmark. Kind greetings
