This is so sad. Also the first time that I have heard of a building collapsing while being build in this country. We have really strict and high standards when it comes to building code. How did this happen?

Happened before already in Roodepoort a few years ago.6 workers were killed and it was found the contractor was mixing sand with the cement and pocketing the money meant for more cement.

Many Factors. 1. Poor Design: by Engineer 2. Poor Quality Control: By Principal Agent and Inpsectors 3. Poor Workmanship: by Contractor 4. Incompetent Staff

Wow, all I wanna say is, imagine being the survivor who knows his/her actions caused this disaster... must be an awful feeling... just take us into your confidence and confess... right... So it's taken years for SA to say what killed 21 youngsters at a tavern, oh wait, we still don't know... bet the same drawn out process plagues the efforts to get to the bottom of this disaster, if you excuse the pun... if not, go get touched on your studio with anyone else ffs...

It is not the architects fault, he only draws the plans. The blame should squarely be put on the engineer and Municipality for not monitoring the progress and doing inspections. Maybe they got a brown envelope to overlook the shoddy workmanship by the contractor.
